Anyone have any idea what this might be. I picked it up a while ago and totally forgot about it. It doesn't seem like its a photo as its on really thick stock. It is period and not recent. Test shot? Premium? Placemat? It was cut down from its original size at some point right now its 7x9.
Thanks! |

Ruth and Lloyd were in a movie called Speedy, there is a book of it called a photoplay edition that has photos of Ruth in it. i do not recall this one, but it may have been associated with that movie.

Hey its a start, thanks for the info! I knew about the movie but not about the book. I'll see if I can find anything on that that might bring some more info. Thanks again!

There is an Italian card issue that features this scene. Black bordered. I forget the name.
The item could be a publicity photo. Double weight stock and even a matte finish were not unusual for studio issued photos in the era.

Thanks Adam, now that you mention it the stock is a matte finish rather than any than a gloss stock.
Edited to say that all of the 1932 cards Jossetti and the italian one (I used to own one) feature Lloyd and Ruth looking at a bat. Last edited by pencil1974; 08-15-2015 at 03:17 PM. |

What is going on with Ruth's left hand in the photo from the original poster? Messed up photo, or did he have some kind of injury at the time?

Looks like he has a cigar in his hand.

Thanks...I now see that paper wrapped device of death. It certainly has made his hand appear gnarled and abused.

Its an odd thing all the way around. I know its period but seems to be a promo of some sort but Ruth and Lloyd just don't look happy around each other. Stark difference compared to the card. The other thing that struck me as odd is they blurred out the background every where except for the metal grate time thing beside Ruth. Why not blurry that as well?
