I totally get the "card not the holder" mantra... Beautiful card...looks relatively free of print dots, though there are a few...but still...$985? Someone taking a swing on a regrade to 9? Curious what the community thinks about the result.

If the card looks as nice in person and some dealers were able to preview it and see it in person I believe they may feel it severely undergraded. It sure appears so from the scan. Corners appear sharp and I don't see all that print junk that almost every Yaz rookie has.

I almost dropped a huge snipe on that but lost myself in meetings. The card looks like a 9 at first glance. And yet a 9 would still cost significantly more than the winning bid on that card. A prime case of the card over holder, and what's more there is bump potential mitigating cost in case of a resale. I've had 7s regrade to 9s before so it happens. But in terms of enjoying a clean, gorgeous card that looks better than many 8s and 9s, that card right there would bring a collector great enjoyment. Waiting around for an 8 or 8.5 that looks the same, and then having to win that 8 or 8.5, makes winning that card at that price a good deal, if you're after that card and love it.
I mean cover that flip and imagine it said '9,' on it, and it would look right at home. Props to whoever will be holding that beauty in their collection. Last edited by MattyC; 05-16-2015 at 02:44 PM. |

looks like a strong 7, but not really knowledgeable on yaz rookies....was a pwcc auction though....
edited: strong 7, meaning definitely a better card than the grade. I would think crack and resubmit in a heartbeat. Last edited by begsu1013; 05-16-2015 at 02:42 PM. |

Just checked VCP and 9s centered like that would command 6-8 times as much right now. So someone paid good 8 money for a freakishly nice 7, that looks like a 9 that costs a ton more. Smart play. My snipe would've been strong 8 money as well for a 7 like that.

that kinda baffles me that a average psa 8 yaz rookie is only around $900 - $1000 then?
might be undervalued.... |

That is the best looking PSA 7 I have seen. I think the eye-appeal of that warrants the price paid. Would certainly love that one in my collection.

Yeah I kicked myself when I realized I missed it.
Then again, I found this one hiding in a 4 holder for PEANUTS. It regraded to a 6! |

I find it fascinating, having only been back in the hobby for a couple of years, but I don't think I have seen a card go for so high over VCP. The card looks perfect, no doubt...I wonder if there is a micro crease or something that knocked it to 7. The PWCC description did say it was a great card but didn't sell it as much as I have seen them do on other cards. Congrats to whoever won it, it is clearly a prize...can't wait to compare my 7 to it later tonight.
