I was offered around $20-$30 for the pair of these after I asked for advice on the board. I told the guys they could bid in auction. Had they offered about $50-$60 for the pair I probably would have sold them...

Just them being Burke postcards you would think that would have bumped the price to about $50 each anyway. Just my two cents.
Edited to say in in the offers, obviously you did better than that at your auction. Last edited by pencil1974; 03-10-2015 at 08:00 AM. |

It shows die hard evidence there are more eyeballs in your auction, than just the members here. I personally love it when that happens!

I remember when someone on eBay offered me $3 for something and I said it would be easier and more cost efficient for me to simply throw them in the trash.

f you think about it from their perspective, there are plenty of sellers who offer items up at 2-3 times what most here consider market value. And there are other sellers who have unique items that they appear to be too proud of (I fall into that category at times). Just look at the items here that start off at $2000 and get whittled down to $1,000 over a few weeks. If I get only 'low ball' offers for something, then it educates me that perhaps I am asking too much.

This made me laugh. I'm going to use that the next time it happens to me. I'm always too PC when I respond to those type of requests.

It can be bad on other sites too. A bat listed at $200 gets an offer of $100 with free shipping. Hmm, thanks but I'll pass.
One guy bought a bat from me and within 30 minutes demanded a refund because I wouldn't take care of the additional insurance he wanted. I told him to send me $5 extra and I'll get it for him. Had a huge fit because he felt I should take care of it due to issues he's had lately. Demanded the refund, and I did so. He's on my DNST(do not sell to) list, among others. People want things as cheap as possible, which I understand, but do it without being insulting. ![]()

I don't consider a pre-auction offer of $30 for the pair outrageous [wasn't my offer, either]. I can see the thinking: Doerr and Ferrell are common HOFers whose signatures can be obtained in a variety of media readily on eBay for under $20, so offer a bit low and let Leon ask for more. I'd have figured about $30 each for them but I love vintage signed PCs, so I'd have paid more than the signature price regardless. Even so, I was watching those PCs and was amazed at how strongly they sold.

Most graded cards are different, as they have fairly clear values associated with them, but it's not so clear with some other items. A lot of people who sell on ebay are totally out of touch with their potential customers. Getting mad or insulted doesn't contribute to profit.
