Default Where Have All The Signed T206 Cards Gone?

You'd think that after an autographed common Nap Rucker portrait sold at REA last year for over $5,000 that more signed T206 cards would be offered up for sale at auction. But, auction after auction (aside from the occasional Marquard) you just don't see them. What is it going to take to shake some of those signed beauties free? Where have all the signed T206 cards gone?

I think you have most of them, don't you?

Because you have them all! I have one :-(
If I could have any collection out there, it would be yours; all day everyday. My favorite collection on net54. You should show them again sometime. Haha.

Brendan - thanks so much! Why don't you show your signed T206. I'd be thrilled to see it posted.

Default signed T206

Paul
I am seeing that with not only T206 but alot of other vintage signed. This past 6 months I have only added one card to my lists of wants and that was a 1954 Bowman Willie Mays. Nothing pre war in along time. There are some items like my T201 and T202 I would part with but we all want astronomical prices these days and those of us whose pockets are not that deep won't pay.
I don't even know folks besides you, me and 2 or 3 others that have any number of cards and now that I only do HOFers I don't have very many. It is sad as most of our searching is a failure

I'd love to have those T201s and T202s back, but I agree - your astronomical prices are too, well... Astronomical! They're not T206s, my friend!

I also agree that it is sad that our searching has been a failure in recent years. I just figured that exorbitant prices for signed T206s would bring more to market. I guess something other than dollars is keeping them in private hands.

Paul- you've assembled a superior collection, but with all due respect, signed T206's have never really done anything for me. Pretty cool in theory, but just not my cup of tea. The $5k price for Rucker makes no sense to me whatsoever. Can you explain that to me?

I have a signed Doyle throwing with a pen dot of ink by his name. Part of the great Pgh find of 2007. I'm not near my computer now and I don't think an iPhone allows me to post a picture (???). But I've showed it here a couple of times; my favorite card.

The signed Ricker is pretty simple: supply and demand. Not too many signed T206s come on the market anymore. Plus I think the Rucker is a little unique in that not too many of this pose (signed) exist. And you probably had 2 people battling head to head via auction. Just my 2 cents.

I think you are asking Paul an impossible question to answer. It should have read...Can you explain human nature to me as it pertains to buying little pieces of cardboard? Answer: ?????

When 2 people REALLY want something and they are anonymous to each other (or even in the same room) you will get 100 different outcomes if that auction went off 100 times. Add 3 crazy collectors (and I am one) to the mix and you have an atom bomb situation. That card on a different day may have gone for $2500 or maybe even $7000. Who knows! I think that the unknown is half the fun in all this.

Peace, Mike

Depends a little on condition, but $1,200-$1,500 is what the bidding will get to. I've known private sales of clean examples to go even higher.

Default Paul....

We have both "carved" a great niche and are truly "collecting" on the fringe!

I love your collection! just insane to put that together..............you have given me some of my inspiration....

true focus , hard work, and a lot of cashola to put what you have together.....you should be proud of yourself for that......... some accomplishment....

to think, the players actually handled each one of your cards.....just amazing!!!wow....that adds an "X" factory of in my book...

I must use the emoticons sparingly, I have a "heckler" out there who is sweating me like no ones business.....let the haters hate, just shows the "green monster" that dwells in all of us

Daryl

YOU put a smile on my face That was Great!

some others( I won't mention).........need to learn true respect for fellow collectors, les they be sparred the verbal lashing...........

arrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh matie.....

BRING IT ON!

Paul,

the signed 206's are quite rare(as you well know).......especially some players....they will slowly filter towards you as you exude Awesome Karma my friend.....

be well.....

Peace my fellow collectors(even the douche one's)

Danny-

Great card! That's from the Great Pittsburgh Find of Signed T206s in 2007. Excellent provenance!

Contrary to popular belief, I simply do not have them all, but one example of as many as I could get. For instance, that 2007 find had 6 McBrides and 5 Doyle throwings. That means 5 McBrides and 4 Doyle throwings from that collection alone are out there, but not traded. There are plenty more of these out there in other collections. I'm just surprised that with the going rate for a Nap Rucker up in the $5,000 range - I gave up on that one with the bidding at $3K - that more people haven't at least listed their examples on eBay with exorbitant prices. C'mon people!

Mrvster - your enthusiasm for collecting (and your praise of my collecting choices) are always appreciated by me at least. The hobby could use a bit more of the joy you bring to every post.
