1961 Topps #50 Lorne Worsley. I saw this card on ebay and just HAD to add it to my collection! I think the card looks so cool and brings me down to a dozen cards left to complete my set

Thumbing through my 1960 Topps cards (14 to go for the set), it looks like Topps used the same photo for "Gump" in 1960 and 1961! Fine by me!
"In 1961, a shot from Bobby Hull that hit him in the forehead landed him, unconscious, in Montreal's Royal Victoria Hospital. Upon awakening, asked how he was feeling, Gump replied: "Good thing the puck hit me flat!" ![]() |

Nice cards. Love that 61 set.
Goalies are undoubtedly the most interesting characters of the 1950s-1970s NHL. They are all bundles of neuroses, quirks and eccentricities, or odd little Quebecois. Here is a 1965 photo of Terry Sawchuk: ![]() My personal hero is the king of stagefright, Glenn Hall, who barfed before every period of every game but set the record for consecutive games in goal. And you gotta love that toque-wearing icon, Jacques Plante: ![]()

Roy "Shrimp" Worters is one of two goalies that had more shutouts than losses in the NHL The other is George Hainsworth but he played on the powerful Montreal Canadian team. Worters Played for the New York Americans which were awful to say the least. Worters is also the first goalie to win the Hart and Vezina trophey (in separate years). He stood 5'3" tall but was fearless. His famous quote is "Blood is no reason to leave the net". This is his group one (1933-43) Beehive photo. I have hundreds of vintage hockey cards and photos and always looking to trade. Drop me a line.
I also have the printers plate for this photo. CCF15022014_00000.jpg |
