I was reading through some newspapers this morning from the early 1900's and realized how much I love jumping into that time. I thought I would share a couple pics.

Good stuff. I read old newspapers online all the time, love the old baseball lingo when singles were called bingles and pitchers were hurlers and twirlers

Hey Jon,
I also like to collect clippings from old newspapers. I also enjoy reading the stories, but sometimes you get a bonus. These clippings from a Cincinnati paper from the 30's included cut out pictures of the famous stars of the day. Next to each picture was a tab for kids to write the name of the player, his team and his position. In effect, free baseball cards for the kids during very tough economic times. Here are a few clippings that I put in top loaders. I sometimes think about the kid who originally cut them out and wrote the player information on the back. Its something I would have done when I was a kid Best regards, Joe Last edited by Northviewcats; 11-08-2014 at 07:02 AM. Reason: to add pictures |

Hi,
Historic newspapers have been my passion for years! I lean more toward papers previous to 1900, historic(but mostly non sports related). Here is a great one that has baseball news in in from 1881, but highlighted with the death of Billy The Kid. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps4dedb8ff.jpg

I love old papers - I used to collect some more actively, and though I haven't added any in years, I do enjoy looking at them.
Here are a couple I had framed up - the Boston Globe announcing the Red Sox as 1916 World Champs, and the Globe from the day the Titanic sank. As cheap as old papers are (and as hard as they are to find to have survived 100 years intact!), what's not to like!? |
