Default FS: SOLD: E93 Honus Wagner (beater)

SOLD For sale is my E93 Wagner. The mess on the front/center has a small rip in the center which goes through the back. In hand, the background color is a deeper red. The back has paper loss along the right border; the type shown in the card is of a higher (in hand). Please feel free to ask questions (although not the snide rhetorical kind) Price is now SOLD and includes shipping with signature confirmation. Check or MO (sorry, I don't have a PP account - blasphemy, I know, I'm a troglodyte)

Default Good seller

I have a Paul S. shotgun blast E90-1 Cobb, and can guarantee Paul is a top notch shotgun gun blast vintage card seller. If I didn't already have an old trimmed up E93 Wagner, I probably would have gone for this one too.

Brian, thanks for the shotgun endorsement. In fact, the Wagz was part of the
E90-1 stack from which you received your cards (from me).

To everybody: I have been getting PMs about the history and veracity, etc., of this card, wby it is not in a holder, et al. I should have included that information it in my initial post. I will do that later today. In fact I will include some scans of the E90-1s so you can see the similarities.

Default Endorsement, with seal of approval included

Paul is a long time collector who, if I am correct, originally obtained his vintage cards in the 1960's. Being a long time collector myself, they are as authentic as dirt, some of which comes with every card

I've picked up several from him that not only filled in some toughies missing from my collection, but fit right in with my other lower rung cards.

Yeah, this card is certainly authentic. There's no real need to holder an obvious "A" card if you're a trustworthy seller.

Default History, Present and Maybe Your Future of the E93 Wagz

I have been getting PMs about the Wagner so let me answer some questions here:

Q: How'd ya get it?
A: About 1968 when I lived in Los Angeles I bought a large stack of forty-five
E90-1s (Brianp now has three of them - Hi Brian!) from "Goodie" Goldfadden. Included in this stack was the E93 Wagner. Every single card from that stack exhibit the same traits (see scan below). All have been in my possession from from that time.

Q: Will the Wagz grade? (Meaning, alterations)
A: Yes, meaning it would, by general consenus and grading guidelines.

Q: Why didn't you grade it yourself?
A: All of the cards I have are raw and obtained long before card grading existed. The only time cards of mine have been graded is when I consign and the AH does it for me. (In fact, I have never held any of the graded versions in my own hand!). In this instance, I didn't want to wait for a fall auction.

Q: How many Wagners can fit on the head of a pin?
A: _________ -______

Here is a scan of some of the E90-1s from which Hans emerged; all suffer the same imperfections. Thanks for reading and please ask about anything I haven't covered here. - Paul

Luke, thanks for the 'trustworthy' mention.

Do you really think the card would grade an 'A'? Sounds like a '1'. From SGCs website:

Poor; 1.
This card usually exhibits many of these characteristics: heavy print spots, heavy crease(s), pinhole(s), color or focus imperfections or discoloration, surface scuffing or tears, rounded and/or fraying corners, ink or pencil marking(s), and lack of all or some original gloss, small portions of the card may be missing.

The hole in his gut I file under small portions of the card may be missing.

The card exhibits none of the rejection codes for an 'A'. There is no trimming, coloring or any other alterations, etc.

I'm certainly no expert on how they grade cards like this. I agree that it sounds more like a "1" than an "A". My point was just that it isn't strange for a low grade card to remain raw in someone's collection, and I wouldn't have any qualms buying one like this from a reputable dealer.

Luke, I am not an expert either, especially my own cards -- I had some guidance from a couple of board members. Not that they told me what to price the card at, but gave me advice on how to figure it out. After all these years, I'm a tad more knowledgeable at it. It's kind of fun, actually! Take care. - Paul

Paul, Are any of the E90-1's available for sale. If so, I'd be interested in the Leever

And I'm assuming those holes are from being tacked to a wall long ago. Is that reasonable?

Bob, not available now. Likely in the near future, I just haven't had time to tackle them all. Thanks for asking.

As far the holes, not sure. Everyone I know refers to them as something to the effect of "that shot-up set". Pins are a viable guess. That could explain why the Cobb has all that paper loss, as if someone yanked it off a wall. The browning around the hole might suggest rusting. However, target practice is just so much more romantic

I was thumbing through some of my cards, and found this one that I love. I think it proves that your Wagner would receive a "1" grade:
