Any bit of help would be appreciated as I am new at this and can't tell if this card has been trimmed or not. Can one tell from pictures or does the card have to be in hand?

That sure huh? Well that's disappointing. I guess I should only buy graded cards.

Once you get a handful more raw cards like your Lumley then you will have a better feel about seeing altered cards. Graded cards have their own appeal as well so it's best in the early going to stay open.

Why would someone trim a card in such a bad and glaring manner? It's totally off-center now.

Thanks Jeff . And you're right. I'm going to ask the seller for a partial discount and I would like to keep the card as a sample. I may even go buy the jewellers loupe so I can compare cards. This cards front and back are so good I don't understand why one would alter it.

I expect it is trimmed, but not an unattractive card… depending on the price and your preferences, it could still be a worthwhile addition.

It's still a nice card. What did you spend on it? Might still be a good buy. I don't mind buying trimmed cards that look as nice as that one, provided the price is right.

To me it looks ok.
The right edge is the only one I'd have doubts about. But the left edge is showing the right sort of rounding so the right should show much less. Since you have it in hand, feel the edges. There should be a slight curve from front to back, and a ridge on the back side. If you have a good magnifier, look at the edges from the back. There should be a slight bit of chipping on all four edges, often very slight. A very clean cut with no curve on the front and no ridge and /or chipping on the back is usually trimmed. Or.........Go with it being trimmed. I'd be happy to pick it up for a bit over the usual "A" price. ![]() Steve B |
