Default Cy Young in 8.5 on Ebay

Just trying to get some opinions on a Young in GAI 8.5 on ebay right now. I have some GAI's and they seem fine. But this is a whole different ballgame being this card in such a high grade. Do any of you trust the GAI grading service with cards in this high of grade? Just curious. Thanks alot.

Also... I wouldn't trust GAI to grade my son's homework. And he's 2.

First of all, without seeing the card in person, I'd be real nervous that this card has been trimmed. The top edge cut looks funny to me.

Secondly, it looks like this card has a shill bidder. 31% of the 1,819 bids this buyer has placed have been with this same seller. And they have 141 bid retractions within the last six months.

I would never spend money on a GAI-graded card, especially a card that's going to command a high price. Proceed with extreme caution.

If you feel this card is a candidate for resubmission I think you are really rolling the dice considering a sharp slabbed 'A' from PSA or SGC could probably be acquired for less than $500. Then again, 7's are going for over 3k so maybe you see opportunity here.

On the other hand if you leave it in a GAI holder you are going to have trouble moving the card when that time comes, at least in my opinion.

Either way, my two cents is this one is too risky.

True, I looked at it as a huge risk. But if it were to go like a 7 or 8 with SGC it would be a crazy valuable card. But i think yall are right, the risk is just too much. Thanks

Consider it AUT - trimmed, and if it's a good deal in that grade then go for it.

Do I trust GAI? No.

GAI/Global Authority is run by a scam artist, avoid anything in their holders. Do a google search you will be amazed that they are somehow still in business scamming away.

There are some issue with the scan. Either the card isn't perfectly square of the scan is bad. That said, the image is nice. I would not trust any grading company.

I've never had a GAI card not cross over. Some the same grade, some up or down one.

Keep in mind there's been a couple of reincarnations of GAI
The initial company founded by Steve Rochhi & Mike Baker were OK in the beginning.

Default Other problems

There are other problems with this card that, in my opinion, would keep this card from grading 8.5. What is with the big green dot on the front of the card? Look at the back, the "R" in cigarettes seems to be filled in with ink. Plus, there is a long print mark on the back, along with a couple of smudges. There is some chipping near the bottom of the left border.

I can't see this card being an 8.5 even if it is not trimmed.

At least it's in the old style holder. I wouldn't buy anything in their newer style case. I have quite a few GAI graded cards, some higher end, and I personally don't see anything wrong with the cards, but I'm not a grader. All grading companies make mistakes, PSA and SGC included. It's been said a million times before, pay what you're comfortable with. Don't buy the holder. For what it's worth, from the scans provided, the top of the card looks fishy to me. But as I said, I'm not a grader.

I know it is not often you get such a high class grading company and honest seller all in one auction.

Just remember bid high and bid often because the shiller will.LOL

+1...As a matter of fact, their cards initially were selling for more than comparable PSA cards. However, that was in the initial stages of the company. This young card in my opinion is definitely trimmed....

I remember those days, the prices on Ebay used to be a little higher for the original GAIs when they first started showing up. Good memory

The chances of someone owning a legitimate 8.5 graded HOF player in a GAI slab and not trying to cross it to SGC/PSA are zero.

The chances of any card selling in a Probstein or PWCC auction which does not contain numerous underbidders who bid primarily in their auctions (i.e. shills) are close to zero.

Add those two issues together and you have a full-fledged disaster on your hands.

How is it the big ebay auctioneers seem to find all of the collectors shillers that can't make their mind up and keep retracting?

It is strange, kind of like these 3 Aaron Rogers cards. They were sold by PWCC to 3 different eBay ID's on Feb 14th now all 3 are being sold by Probstien123.
PWCC listings
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Press-P...item5d4934fbec
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Press-P...item5d4934fc03
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Donruss...item20df5c8bec

Same 3 cards now listed with Probstien123
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Donruss...item5405cd0980
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Press-P...item58acd2072c
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Press-P...item58acd20913

Seen this posted on another site and though that Rick is the best salesman ever since 3 different eBay Id's won the cards from PWCC and they all relisted them with Rick at the same time.
