This is a better option for deals in BST and the card itself
has a multitude of uses besides sending fee-free money to your card buddies. You can pay bills, shop anywhere that AMEX is accepted and of course, send money to family and friends. https://www.bluebird.com I have used it for 6 months now and the app for the iphone/ipad is great. You can manage everything right from your device. Card is backed by American Express. Cost is $5 at Walmart and you can load money onto it at any Walmart. I was literally up and running in less than 10 minutes. The starter card is good until your permanent card arrives. Cards like these are the future and should eventually lead to PayPal eliminating fees for sending money. I feel the more these type of cards are used, the more reason PayPal will have to compete or step aside.

Am I reading this wrong or is this basically a debit card that allows you to send money? If so, you are paying for the right to give this firm interest free money. This may not be a big issue in this low interest environment but it could be in the future. Nice business model for them though. For the consumer, debit cards are a horrible idea.

It's no different then PayPal except that PayPal is for EBay (for a fee).
Both require the money to be on deposit. PayPal charges a fee for private sales and BlueBird does not (better for things like BST). BlueBird is accepted everywhere Amex is which I have to believe is more retailers than PayPal. It has BillPay and you can deposit at any Walmart. I brought this to the boards attention primarily for the free transfer of money feature when buying cards.

I hope this does catch on, only with another company. I will not buy anything from the Evil Empire.

Frank-PayPal also let's you use a credit card for paying for purchases. If you pay from a bank account you are just taking pre-existing not productive funds. With this new firm, you are creating more non-productive funds.

Does Bluebird, being a debit card, have a money back guarantee if your item doesn't arrive or you are ripped off by having something else sent? PayPal does and that is the only good thing I can say about them.

Didn't know PayPal insured BST deals. Thought it was just EBay.
