Not sure I understand the question but Marty Bergen played for the Boston Beaneaters from 1896 to 1899.

I believe Frank is referring to this auction:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1890s-Cabine...item58ab771795 I don't see anyone in the group that resembles Marty Bergen and to my knowledge he never played for Princeton. He was playing for his town team prior to 1892 when he started his professional career with Salem of the New England League. He spent four years in the minors, then moved on to the majors from 1896 thru 1899 with the Boston Beaneaters. Last edited by NewEnglandBaseBallist; 02-11-2014 at 03:30 PM. |

By the way, the Boston NL team of the 1890s did not use the nickname Beaneaters in the way nicknames are used today. The term Beaneaters was used in jocular fashion by the sporting press (Sporting News and Sporting Life) just as the Yankees are called the Bronx Bombers or Pinstripers today. If you asked a Boston baseball fan how the Beaneaters did, you'd likely get a blank stare, or a knuckle sandwich, in reply. Bo.b Ri.chardson Last edited by spec; 02-11-2014 at 05:55 PM. |

I have an image of a cabinet of Marty Bergen displayed at the stadium where the Rangers play. I have sent the image to Leon that he can hopefully add. Always thought his background was quite interesting.
