Neat item Bill
Though we may not have realized it, Fleer was soon to be competing with Topps for the #1 spot in the 5 cent sport card market :-) Last edited by ALR-bishop; 08-27-2016 at 12:50 PM. |

Hmmm, the 1959 NBC Marian Eiskamp card has never sold on eBay? I've never seen it before, and a search for Marian Eiskamp on worthpoint came up empty.
Anyone know about that set? I guess the writer didn't know about the Virginia Slims set in 1886...

Thank you for posting! I really enjoy seeing collectors newsletters from the early days of the hobby. If you have any other newsletters, I hope you will consider posting them as well.

I am attempting to make those a bit larger. Thanks so much to Bill for posting them and sending them over. Few of us have been in the hobby much longer....(not sure if they are in order)

Thanks for the heavy lifting, Leon - this is some interesting reading, for sure. I had screen captured some of it and put it into a graphics app where it could be zoomed for easier reading by my ancient eyes, but you have saved some of the effort.

I love the references of creating a "card collectors club" with annual dues of $0.25, and especially the request to readers for a list of players to include (checklist) for the "Wilson Wieners" and "Rodeo Franks" card sets. Didn't they have the internet in 1960?
Thanks to OP and Leon as these are a treat to read Last edited by MCoxon; 08-31-2016 at 07:15 AM. |

I thought that Frank Lane invented the interweb...oh, maybe that was insider-trading.
