Default FS: Mickey Mantle Master Set

I am still on the fence but am considering parting with my Mickey Mantle collection (leaning against it but figured I'd at least entertain offers for now, if any). I've got 378 unique piece and can also include somewhere between 30 and 40 duplicates. Almost all of these pieces are career contemporary, although it is difficult to identify an exact date for some of the premiums and postcards so some may be later pieces (i.e., I am not 100% convinced that the Kodak back postcards were printed in the 1960s but have a handful of them anyway).

I have complete/near complete runs of the following, major brands:
1. Topps - 1952-1969, excluding most test issues, but including all variations.
2. Topps Venezuelans - missing a cream back 1959 Venezuelan but otherwise complete
3. OPC - missing the 1960 Portrait Tattoo but otherwise complete
4. Bazooka - in individual card format
5. Post
6. Post Canadian
7. Jello

I also have a number of regionals.

Highlights from the collection include the following:
1. 1952 Topps PSA 1
2. 1952 Topps SGC A
3. 1952 Photo Card (note: only one of the two pictured is included, the one on the right in the photo has been listed separately on eBay but I would consider offers on just that card)
4. 1951 Bowman BVG 1
5. 1959 Venezuelan SGC 1.5
6. 1960 Venezuelan PSA 1
7. 1963 Pittsburgh Exhibit (only one of the variation ever graded)
8. Wheaties Premium Photo PSA 4
9. 1953 Stahl Meyer and 1955 Stahl Meyer (SGC 1)
10. 1959 Home Run Derby (I believe it is a PSA 2)

The condition of my collection varies a bit. I've always been a bit more of a completionist than a condition sensitive collector. Most of the rarer cards are in better condition while the more common cards vary from decent to filler grade.

If you are interested, please feel free to make an offer by PM. I will not sell any of the cards individually as I either want to finish the set or get a clean break from collecting to focus on saving for a house.

Here are a few pictures of portions of my collection:

Picture of all but my more recent additions

My Venezuelan run

My rookies (Note: the photo card on the right, which is a duplicate, is listed for sale on eBay separately and is not included).

I am interested in purchasing the Mantle rookie SGC authentic if you would prefer cash instead of a trade.

Thank you. I don't want to break the set up at this time. Giving some thought to selling it but, if I don't, I'll likely continue to plug along until I complete it.

Hey bro, sorry to see this post today. You must be in a connundrum here. I know theres things in life more important such as the wife, kids, dog and other expenses.
It seems like i known you here for a long time and i helped and watched you build this collection for a while. It is indeed a greatly sight. I too have stepped where i needed to sell a few items. But this is a major step for ya and of course people wanna a few pieces and not the whole jolappy. Like the saying Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free. You must have some reasoning behind this and it makes sense to put towards a house or education or even retirment or even a vacation with the new wife.
In the end, if you do sell all, you still have the memories and can add more down the line. Good Luck!!
Ps. Wouldnt mine the A var.

Thank you all for the comments and interest. After speaking with my wife, and some great board members (thanks Sean, Chris, and Brian!), I've decided to hold on to it for a while and try to pick up the last few cards I need to complete it.

Sounds like you have a great wife! Unbelievable collection! I agree, if you're not desperate for $$ then why sell such a unique collection. Good luck completing the set. We are all rooting for you!

Thanks Dan! She is a great wife. And, thanks for rooting for me! I am two cards away from what I will consider complete. The sad part is that the ones I am still missing really aren't that valuable. I just cannot seem to find them for sale.

Hi Nate,

I forgot to update my signature block. It is sort of an evolving process. I find items I have never seen before and I add and subtract cards from the want list on a regular basis. There are only two cards still left on my want list--a 1963 Lenox Hospital Postcard and a Holiday Inn three pane postcard featuring the hotel pool. To actually complete the set, I would need somewhere between 3 and 20 cards, depending on what you consider "cards" and what you consider necessary to complete the set. Of the somewhat mainstream issues, the only things I am missing are the 54 Stahl Meyer (difficult to find and too expensive), Briggs Meats, and a 59 Venezuelan with a cream back. I'd be happy even if I never got those. I would like those two pesky postcards though...

Chris
