Got this one at the local Stratford CT show today. I can't say that I have acquired too many autographs in person, but I will say that this was by far the most memorable... Dwight took the time to pose for photos, make small talk, and shake the hand of every guest...
I took this one out of my minor league collection... when I brought it up to him, he said that the photo was from 82, but the card was from 83. I commented on how impressive his 83 season was (18-4, 300k's), and he came back with a big smile and said "19-19 wins in 83" He continued to tell me how he actually started the season off 0-3 and was on the verge of being sent down, he had a scheduled start and was terribly sick. He decided to work through it. He won the game and went 19-1 in his next 20 decisions... The rest was history Really impressed with Dwight's professionalism, graciousness and ability to relate with kids and adults alike... Couldn't have asked for a better autograph guest. He even signed his full name for me! and I checked the stats on google after... I stand corrected it was 19 wins! Last edited by daves_resale_shop; 12-01-2013 at 12:22 PM. |

Great story. Reminds me how a lot of card show signings were when I started going to shows in the late 80s. Nice card too.

I just picked up this terrific vintage fountain pen signed GPC of early no-hit twirler Earl Moore.
Moore has proven to be an extremely elusive autograph to find, so I am very happy to add this to my collection of no-hit pitcher signatures. Many thanks to net54 board member Jim Stinson. ![]() In 1901 Earl Moore pitched 9 innings of no-hit ball vs. the Chicago White Sox before eventually surrendering a hit in the 10th inning. Moore was the tough luck loser in this game. As such, Moore became the first pitcher to ever lose a no-hitter in the 20th century. Moore pitched for several teams including AL Cleveland (Blues, Broncos, Naps), NY Highlanders, NL Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and the Buffalo Blues (Federal League) in his 14 year career that ended in 1914. BTW, if anyone is interested in adding a tough vintage signature to your collection, I have a very nice fountain pen signed cut of Moore that I just upgraded with this GPC. Please send me a PM if you are interested. Last edited by Scott Garner; 12-02-2013 at 07:29 AM. |

Awesome pick-up, Scott. I can't even imagine how tough of a signature he is.
And for the record, whether it's your photo or not, those Blues uniforms are top-notch. Graig

Also picked up a few other items from there, including the Rochester minor league team signed ball lot, one of which has a nice sweet spot Ken Boyer and another has a super rare pre-rookie Mike Marshall. My favorite is still the Drysdale though. I mean...wow. Tom C |

Collector David Smith from Maine worked on a project in 1989 that ultimately made its way into my no-hitter collection. Definitely a collector after my own heart!
He had 9 pitchers of no-hit games ranging from 1938-1981 sign this 8 x 11 sheet and add the dates of their corresponding no-hitter games. Sadly, 7 of these gentlemen are now deceased. Pitchers that signed the sheet are: Johnny "Double No-Hit" Vander Meer (D) Ewell "The Whip" Blackwell (Vander Meer's teammate on the Reds during the 1940's) (D) Allie "Super Chief" Reynolds (D) Carl "Oisk" Erskine Bob Lemon (D) Rex Barney (D) Bob "Smiley" Keegan (D) Harvey "The Kitten" Haddix (D) 12+ innings of perfection! Len Barker- Perfect game Cool pickup for under $5 per autograph. Think you could get that done today? ![]() Last edited by Scott Garner; 12-06-2013 at 06:41 PM. |

I didn't realize Bob Keegan threw a no hitter. I met his son at my cousin's wedding years ago. He's the former CEO of Goodyear. He had a decent job too.

Thanks, yeah had my eye on at least 5 pieces in auction that all skyrocketed in the last moments of the auction. Was able to get this in just within my budget. #201 is already on its way, but I think I (and my wallet) are done bidding for a while.

I've been busy:
Jackie Price single, never thought I'd find one. Some tougher star and Negro Lg 8x10. (VERY happy with the Kennedy, he's tough!) Upgraded to a perfect Bob Sheppard. Got a new batch painted, also. Love the Hunter, had her paint a pic of "The Catch." Makes for a great display. She was amazed I actually wanted Lee in his Red Sox beanie! Ken |

picked this up.....signatures include:
Heinie Manush - OF - Sweet Spot Ray Prim - RP - Sweet Spot - appeared in only 2 games in 1933 Joe Cronin - SS/Manager - Age 26 (26 year old rookie manager bests McCarthy, Ruth, Gehrig and the World Champ Yankees by 7 games to win the pennant, not bad) Bob Boken - INF Walter "Lefty" Stewart - SP Alex McColl - RP Cecil Travis - INF Joe Kuhel - 1B Ossie Bluege - 3B General Crowder - SP - 24-15 record Earl Whitehill - SP - 22-8 record Moe Berg - C Buddy Meyer - 2B Dave Harris - OF Ed Chapman - RP - only played 1 year 1933 - appeared in 6 career games Luke Sewell - C There are 4 others sigs I'm having a hard time making out. The Chapman/Prim connection lead me to conclude this ball is from a game on either September 24 or October 1, 1933 as those were the only 2 games they both appeared on the roster at the same time. It might be nailed down to which of those 2 games by further examining the remaining signatures on this baseball and the rosters/boxscores of those 2 games. On both of those dates the Senators played Lefty Grove, Jimmie Foxx and the Philadelphia Athletics. Last edited by Shoeless Moe; 12-11-2013 at 12:14 AM. |

I am contemplating making this into a Barrow cut since the Ruppert signature is already removed. It is signed on the reverse by Robert E. Walsh who was the Yankees' team physician in those days. I Googled Walsh but found very little information about him other than that he was at Gehrig's side after his luckiest man speech.
