Default Grading Co Experiences as of lately

I have a bunch of cards I want to get graded...and I'm wondering how peoples' experiences have been lately re. PSA and SGC.

It seems SGC has somewhat relaxed their grading standards to more mirror those of PSA in some ways...while a ways back there were major issues w/PSA's turn around time?!

Any experiences recently...good or bad!?

Turned some cards in at The Philly Show to PSA and had them back within 2 months.

Expecting my 10/10/10 special submission of April 22 from SGC today. That's a 30 day turnaround for a ten business day submission.

Grades seem harsh. Nice 1911 Zeenut expected to be at least an 80 is coming in with a 35. Can't see SGC relaxing at all.

Fortunately I don't have any more cards to get graded nor do I expect to in the near future. Just too much of a crapshoot.

EDIT: just received cards. Not only is my Zeenut under graded its in the wrong sized holder. WTH!

Agree with Steve above. Subs are taking a bit longer at SGC (still a lot quicker than PSA) as they are really busy right now. If SGC has relaxed their grading standards, I sure haven't seen it.

I use SGC exclusively and i would say they have NOT relaxed their standards. I usually wait until one of the monthly specials meets my needs and it is about a 30 day turn around on a 10 day offer. I did get a card back and the label was wrong. I called them and they were happy to re-slab with no attitude. I still think they are the best holders visually for pre-ward cards and bowmans.

I feel for sgc their grading has becomes very inconsistent in the last few years. I look at both them and psa as more of a holdering service than graders at this point

Think the graders are overloaded with every dealer getting ready for the National just around the corner.

I do not understand the turn-around time with PSA. I have just resorted to buying already slabbed cards rather than raw. The cost for grading seems high to begin with but the turn-around time is absurdly long. It doesn't add up that the wait would be so long AND the cost would be high. The two -- in my mind -- should be inversely proportional. If business is so good that it takes 2-3 months to grade than the price should be lower. It is frustrating.

My SGC submissions seem to be taking a little longer than normal.

I've had a couple SGC submissions in the past months and both were done in the promised time. Great communication too.

I have never submitted a card for grading. I prefer raw stuff, but was considering it for a few rare cards I own. More I read the less likely that is gonna happen. I sure as hell would expect 10 days to be 10 days not 30-60. Prices are ridiculous as well.

Pete, are you coming to the National? You can do it on site there and pickup the next day. Prices are fairly reasonable when you factor in shipping savings. If there are one or two rarer cards, that's what I would do.

Hey Peter, I hand deliver cards to sgc all the time. Their standards have not lowered, if anything, their graders are snacking on carrots back there.

they just completed my two week order in two weeks. I would.imagine if you hand delivered and wanted to wait, they would easily accommodate with enough notice.

Dont know much about PSA.
