Default Interesting B&W e98 Evers available ... sold!

Not entirely sure why this Evers seems to be missing most if not all color. It's highly possible it missed a color pass (or two) which would put it in the "printer's scrap" category, or it could have simply faded over time. Since it's in a 10 holder, I think it's at least reasonable to assume that the card has not been chemically altered or SGC would have put it in an AUT holder instead.

But regardless, this is a neat little card for sure. It has a rough corner and a tiny scrape on the back but otherwise has a pretty sharp photo that is clear of too much wear.

Asking $110 delivered [card is now sold!!] ....thanks in advance,
Brian

Nice pickup Leon, really nice.
Another board member nabbed it quite a while before I posted, I should have said "if not spoken for, I will take it".....as it was already gone. Rookie mistake.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the interest and I did get several responses fairly quickly. The first guy who wrote in ended up the new owner of this one so it's definitely sold.

I have a couple of these in my collection so I might part with one more sometime on down the line.

Have a good night!
Brian

I've only collected pre war cards for 4 years now, so this might be a dumb question. How do you know this isn't just sun faded? Kinda seems that way by the looks of it?

Well, you would also notice a fading of the colors that do not seem to be missing. For example, the printing of the name is just as dark as any other E98, as well as his belt. Considering how many varying background colors the E98s have - it's not surprising that it may have missed one of the passes! To me, it looks like scrap...

Color is always the first to fade. Just sayin, I have my doubts.

Agreed, it's scrap. I have two myself Ford and Mack. Virtually no color, but the name is still darker.

I definitely know what you mean rich. I think that you would also see a little more color content towards the edges if this was a faded example. That's what I've noticed when observing faded examples. I assume it is due to the black outline towards the edge that absorbs most of the sunlight, or whatever is causing the fading.

It's actually a really good question about the fading and if you notice in my original post, I never rule it out as a possibility. However there's a couple reasons why I truly don't believe the card is just merely faded...

1. Any sort of fading that is so severe that all the color is entirely drained away would at least have to affect the rest of the card in some capacity. Yes, color is first to fade and I know that blank inks are hardier, but if you look at the card, the crispness of the photo, caption, etc.., is perfect while it's just simply missing all it's color.

2. How would a card actually be faded in such a manner? Would someone have, say, left a card outside for a week straight to achieve this? Has anyone ever tried that with an e98 to see what it would look like? I've seen quite a few e98s but never one faded to the point that it would give me the impression that these were prone to deteriorating in sunlight or fading with age over time.

3. The card is in an sgc 10 holder...not an "aut" holder. What that tells me is that it's not possible that any chemicals were used to fade the card or remove the color. If they had been, the card would not have been given a numerical grade.

Hope all that makes sense....

Brian, I fully believe it missed a color pass and is not faded. I've seen your card and the others before. The image, ink are all intact except the backround color. I can't imagine with the E98 vibrant colors that even faded, would eliminate all the orange color. Probably a good question for the SGC guys, but I think they'll agree, as it's happened with cards in other sets before.
