Was wondering if anyone might be able to date this photo based on the pennants displayed on the tables? I also see a number of mini-bats used in the table arrangements, and what looks like Hall of Fame plaque postcards encircling the central table. That, along with the old timers pictured makes me think this is a Hall of Fame Induction event/dinner, but I'll be darned if I recognize anyone other than what looks to be Whitey Ford standing in the back, so feel free to take a stab and IDing any aging players you see as well. Any and all help will be much appreciated, as the back is blank and I have nothing resembling a key for identifying these guys.

The two seated at the far left look to be Frankie Frisch and Bill Terry. Standing in the middle in the light colored suit is Ford Frick. Right below Frick's right arm is Charlie Gehringer. Next to Frick (heading right in the photo) is I think Warren Giles? And he has his right arm around Joe Cronin (I'm not sure about this one, but I think Giles may have his left arm around Heine Manush). It looks like Luke Appling seated second from right, and maybe writer Ken Smith standing right behind him (short bald guy). That might be Paul Kerr of the HOF standing shoulder to shoulder to our right of the guy who likes like Whitey.

Joe McCarthy last one seated far right.
I'm counting 10 pennants in a group around the table the players are sitting. And the Major Leagues didn't go to 11 teams in each league until 1969. So I think it could be before 1969. Just a hunch. Last edited by Dto7; 01-17-2013 at 12:14 AM. |

I think it's 1964. Ford Frick's last year of Commissioner is 1965. Inducted in 1964 were Heinie Manush, Burleigh Grimes, Red Faber, and Luke Appling.
Looks like all four are sitting on the right side of the table as you look at the photo. And where (sayhey24) says Heinie Manush is, it look like the same suit he has on in the photo below. 1964 Baseball Hall of Fame inductees |

Pennants are definitely early-mid 1960s.

Perezfan is right on target with the pennant dating so the 1964 would make sense

Was reading today about the 1964 Hall of Fame inductees. Red Faber fourth person seated from the right in the photo never made it back to the Hall of Fame after 1964.
1964 was the 25 anniversary of the first induction. |

Wow, you guys are awesome! I posted this while out of town, and by the time I get home, there are ID's for half the guys in the crowd and what sounds like a solid date for the photo. I appreciate the time and effort everyone put in, and will be sure to return the favor whenever possible.
