Default Mantle Jersey

New to the forum and like the way people share info. I have been collecting for 15+ years. .I got this Mantle about 14 years ago at an auction. Was supposed to be from Niel Erps collection . Anyonebknow of Mr. Erps. I have been asking. A lot of Mantle questions and everyone has been quite helpful. I asked about another Mantle tonight. Please give me your opinion on this Mick jersey. I think jerseys are harder to autograph

I wouldn't buy it. I am far from a Mantle expert, his signature is too easy to forge, but having read some of the recent threads, there are several things that don't add up with this signature and some of the key points the seasoned members of the board have mentioned.

If I am not mistaken, this is a Greg Marino forgery.

I have stated in several of my posts that I have little knowledge of baseball HOF signatures other than what I got in person in the 1980's and 1990's. I enjoy looking at all of the posts asking if it is real as it is a learning experience. One particular point I have noticed in almost all of the Mickey Mantle forgeries that is not present in the legit signatures is that the 'y' looks like an upside down 4. It appears than Mantle was casual with the upstroke on the 'y', but all of the forgeries have three very straight lines with the upstroke being pretty much perpendicular to the cross stroke. Is this one of the points that those familiar with his signature look for?

I ask questions to learn. Open eyes and open mind.

Cheers,

Michael B.

I can't speak for this particular jersey, but I know on GUF there have been some examples of Cooperstown Coll. jerseys auto'd by Mantle that were produced after he died. While this one has already put on the "avoid" list, should you run across another in the future you might want to investigate the jersey itself.
