This was in a 36 PB lot, each card was $25. It now resides in a boardmember's very nice raw set.

100 bucks for what appears to be a unique Moeller Drum T206 sgc A,
2 or 3 years ago---from a mighty good friend. Framed with a drum pouch, which obviously couldn't have held the card but a beauty nonetheless. best, barry |

By far my biggest victory ever. Appears VG-EX, measures correct. Got it for $1,000, worth at least twice that.

How? Rip off an old lady? Steal them and leave $265 behind as restitution? I'm kidding, but seriously how did you get such a great deal?

I was going to put an e92 Mathewson I got off ebay for $65 BIN about 10 years ago but there were too many T206's already so I decided to keep everything uniform. Sorry about the other cards in the scan, but the best was the Magie for $1775 whenever I got it ($275 was paid by my dad as a Christmas present so it cost me $1500)

12 years ago bought raw Marquard CJ for $200, didn't even know then which year. Turns out it was 1914 and PSA graded it a 7 -- then and now highest grade for the card. So value up a bit.

Bought this T205 Moran raw for $69.00 on ebay a couple years ago, which is my best deal. Proudly posted on this site only to have one of the board members contact the seller and let them know what they had. The seller immediately let me know who contacted them. I was surprised that someone (who I shall not out) was that childish. Lesson learned though.
Purchased the T205 Mathewson before the craze at a great price. My wife's best card purchase for me was this Joe Jackson. It was sold raw and she was on eggshells not knowing if it was authentic or not? Turned out to be a good pickup and my favorite that isn't leaving my collection. r/ Frank

That's a tough question. Does best purchase mean the toughest item I've gotten? The biggest differential between paid price and card value? The one I waited for the longest? I can't decide...
I got this 1928 PCL Earl Averill on the cheap at a local show: ![]() Pulled this out of a miscellaneous junk box at a show: ![]() This card routinely goes over $100 due to the Lon Chaney fans; got it for $5 at a show: ![]() This wasn't cheap--around $90--but Capital Candy athletes are about as tough as Mono Cigarettes baseball cards: ![]() Only 1 of these has surfaced thus far in all my years of boxing card collecting and I got it on Ebay before anyone realized how rare it was: ![]() The 4 on 1 Exhibit cards with this art are tough; the strip cards made from the same art are nearly impossible, but I have one; never seen another, though I have seen 3-4 cuts from the Exhibit cards: ![]() How do I know it is a strip? Besides being on different stock, the set was mixed sport and nonsport and these surfaced: ![]()

Chicago National, 1999. The dealer had two, and I passed on the second one because now I had that hole filled in my type set. I think I spent the money on a Diamond Star.

Just last week I was able to find, for only $2, a complete factory set of the inaugural issue from Score. This groundbreaking set features many action photos, full color backs including another player photo, an included 56 trivia magic motion cards!
But my best deal was probably a lot of 1983 topps cards I got off of ebay one night last year. For some reason the seller did not list in the title the Ripken rookie or the two HOF pre-war cards included in the photo. The winning bid was more than I'd pay for ink-stained '83s, but much less than what the other cards were worth. It was only a few months into my pre-war collecting days and I had already gotten great deals on a Gold Medal Foods Medwick and a couple other ones. I thought getting good deals was going to be easy. Now I think it was beginners luck. |

Probably these. The Cobb was $20, the Hannifan probably $2-3. I got a Nattress at the same time, but no scan.
There's a few others, but those are probably the best moneywise. The small batch of Sl blank backs, the Dominion chocolates baseball player, and the T49s are other favorites. Steve B |

A Buck for the Hub... (Well, not exactly....)
I snagged a small lot of 15-20 cards in an auction last year, for one card (T211 Hub) that was buried in the auction lot, and quickly sold off the parts at market value putting me at a buck for this very rare card among the Red Sun toughies.

Look at me, opening up another old thread. Finally scanned this card after buying it sometime in early 2002. I figured since I mentioned it in this thread, why not post it here. Maybe someone else also got a great find in the last six months. $65 delivered for this off the bay

My best purchase was probably this 1890's Binghamton Bingos cabinet featuring Wee Willie Keeler. When I bought it for $100, I did not know Keeler was in it. Figured it out within 5 seconds of opening the package.

Jeff, Phil,
I bought it on ebay 9-10 years ago, then sold it about a year later to a Keeler collector. I don't know where it went from there, as following my old pieces through the auction houses and seeing what they re-sell for, is quite depressing.

Not as spectacular as some of the other buys here, but picking up about 110 low grade T206s for $100 in the late 80s was one of the things that made it possible for me to make a push to get the set. It included a lot of lower to mid level hall of famers and southern leaguers.
A bigger money purchase i made that worked out well was at one of the Tuff Stuff shows I got a nice Seaver rookie, a low to mid grade Cracker Jack Walter Johnson and a nice Juan Marichal rookie for $400.

My t206 Joe Doyle and t206 Ed Cicotte. I payed $90 for each card, raw. The Cicotte graded a 5 and the Doyle a 4. Obviously their prices have gone up.
