Hi-
I recently acquired the 1878 Syracuse Cornell broadside pictured below and I was wondering if anyone on the board could help with a few questions I have. I have had a few 19th century broadsides before, but none dated this early. Can anyone show examples of earlier dated baseball broadsides? I am sure they are out there. What is the earliest dated professional baseball broadside? Please also feel free to show any of your favorites. Thanks in advance, Alan Elefson aelefson@hotmail.com |

Wow that thing is great...you're talking my language I'm Mr. Broadside...If you decide to move that let me know (along with that cheezy Yankee stadium architectural letter M :-)....I've got a Cornell one that has 1877 written in pencel that I got from Mark Rucker 20 years ago, see below..and the Harvard Yale one below, which is also from 1877 the same year the catchers mask was invented at Harvard. At the very bottom is probably the most incredible baseball broadside I've ever seen....I took the shot at the 2009 National in the booth of Kevin Bronson.
Very good question on the earliest Pro baseball broadside...I'll have to give that some thought as nothing pro comes to mind...the very early pro ones must be very rare... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

This is my favorite broadside, although it is not an earlier one ( c 1950). It is from Delisle, Saskatchewan, 10 miles from Saskatoon. The five baseball playing brothers may have more familiarity in another sport. Emil The Cat Francis is also referenced.
