I got a nice note from a Florida Hospital asking if I would post about a charity auction they are having this Sunday, the 18th. Kind of short notice but I just got the email this morning. "I am writing you on behalf of the Florida Hospital Foundation. My team came across your forum as they were researching popular sites on which to share memorabilia information. We have an upcoming fundraiser, this Sunday, November 18, which benefits vital programs at Florida Hospital located in Central Florida. During the event, we will be auctioning off a one-of-a-kind motorcycle donated to us by Ken Griffey, Jr. This unique bike contains autographed balls from all eight members of the 600 Home Run club. This includes a ball signed by Babe Ruth and 19 other players, such as Lou Gehrig, Johnny Mize, Connie Mack and Lefty Gomez. Please see the attached PDF for more details.

I was hoping that you could share this opportunity on your forum. Since we know that the most interested collectors may not be able to attend the event, we are accepting proxy bids that can be placed with our third-party auctioneer who will be administering the Live Auction. The funds raised from this motorcycle will benefit the Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children. Thanks Sean. I spoke to one of their administrators yesterday and the way they are performing this auction is not optimal. I do know if anyone wants to bid they need to email the person that I referenced. They might have to redo this auction though...however, I am not sure. If anyone is really interested they should contact her soon. And yes, it's a great cause and that is why I felt compelled to help. thanks for the bump to the top.....

In the old days, auctions were often done by email bidding. The auctioneer would send out the lot list and updates vie email and the bidders would send in their bids via email. It's a reasonable way of running an auction, just old school.
