Beautiful cards, Frank.
In 1982 I was offered two complete sets by a dealer. 1958 football for $110 and 1957 football for $120. Being a lowly college student I could only afford to buy one of them and I chose the 1958 football set to save the 10 bucks. 30 years later the '57 Unitas cost me 2-3x this amount. Not a very good investment decision back then ... jeff |

I love the '55 set. I'll post a couple over the next few weeks. The centering isnt perfect, but it is a blazing card.

I think it would be more fun to show images of cards that are rarely seen. Here's one that I think is slightly more interesting. Since Jeff, bid me up on couple of Shotwell's a few weeks ago, here's my revenge.

Nice cards, Carl. Didn't you discover the 9b card? How many have you seen? Where did you get it? And what's the deal with how Shotwell's are categorized in VCP? They don't seem to list the ad backs at all while listing 24 blank backs in 1926 and 12 blank backs in 1935. I'm confused.
How many of those eBay Shotwell's did you end up with? At least now I know who kept sniping my snipes. jeff Quote:

Jeff, I wasn't aware Topps made cards in 1948. I assumed the 1st year was 1950? The cards are great!

The full 1948 set is comprised of a variety of sports and entertainment cards so many purists don't consider it a "real" football set. Some of the price guides list it as a set and some don't. VCP pulls the football cards out as a set so I considered it one.
Everybody calls the 1951 topps set Topps Magic but the 1948 cards are truly magic as they came out of the pack as unexposed photographs. The image would appear when exposed to light. These are sometimes designated as Topps Magic Photos. The condition of these cards vary greatly as many of the photographs never really fully exposed when opened and are quite light. They are pretty easy to obtain and cheap so an easy set to complete if you want to. Hope this helps. jeff |

I've already posted this in another thread, but it is one of my favorite prewar football themed cards:
![]() Figured since these haven't received any love, yet, I'd post a couple of Mayo's. Really not worried so much about the technical grade as I am about eye appeal and the backs being intact (I've seen PSA 5's worse than my Adee): ![]()

I know he was a halfback at Tulane but can't figure out what this image is either. I checked my '59 McGee and it's not rubbed either so no help there.

I like that the letters for the players name look like they were glued onto the card by someone creating a ransom note. Was Topps so poor that they couldn't hire someone who could align these letters better?
