A lot of old time collectors are getting out. Chad and Doug are super good people, I wish them both well.

Had the pleasure of meeting Doug & Chad and viewing the collection.
A finer collection & 2 finer people do not exist. Hopefully I can win something from their collection. |

The Dreier museum is an amazing thing to see, and you couldnt find two classier, humble people in the collecting community than Chad and Doug.
That being said, I cant wait to see that catalogue! |

I have had the privilege of photographing the collection, including the items in todays email, and believe me it's only the tip of the iceberg. The volume and quality is only surpassed by the kindness of Chad,Doug, their family and staff, and I have no doubt that every Legendary catalog for the next two years will bring out some truly amazing and one of a kind items.

It sounds like some stuff was in the last 2 auctions, which would account for the e125's and a few other seldom seen offerings.
I wonder if those guys can help me with a second mortgage ![]() Last edited by murcerfan; 12-06-2011 at 01:34 PM. |

I have also had the privilege of viewing the collection at their museum and getting to know them a bit. The collection is absolutely out-of-this-world! And the Dreiers are a warm and gracious family. All the best to them with the sale.

They are still very hard at work, Peter. You know these things can take years to develop. Lots of evidence and testimonies to hear. Surely it will be any day. Perhaps, Monday.

I didn't see where collectors could partake in the non-auction selling that is currently going on - how do we get a list of what is available?

I guess this is going to be one of those must have auction catalogs.

I too have been blessed to view the amazing collection firsthand. I can tell you that the only thing that surpassed seeing it was the generosity and humility of Chad and Doug. More accommodating people you will not find. If there is a level above first class, they are in it.

Add me to the list of people who have had the privilege and pleasure of viewing this incredible collection in person. I echo what so many have already stated.
You won't find a nicer family. I wish them nothing but the best moving forward!!

Any reason indicated why they are selling everything ? Illness, bored , financial problems etc ? Just read a recent article and they stated they loved the museum . Any insights ?

This is really a monumental event. For those who haven't been fortunate enough to see the collection I will describe my impression of it when I was lucky enough to see it for the first time.
I had been putting together a collection of tough 50s regionals and pre-war PCL cards for about 5 years. I worked on my collection almost daily and had put significant funds into it. When I visited the collection, my entire collection was housed in a one or two binders in their collection. There were shelves full of binders. There were 4 or 5 rooms full of shelves full of binders. There was a main showroom which a few of my cards would have been good enough to be displayed in. The main showroom is larger than my house. |

I contacted Doug Allen today, and he said the only items that are going to be offered via private treaties are the 7 items that are referenced in the newsletter. Everything else will be offered in an auction format over the next 2 years.
He said there will also be a marketing brochure that will be available in a few weeks. Any thoughts on what that Wagner PSA 4 will sell for? Over $2 million? Tony |

I got the (46) 1915 CJ SGC lot and thought I paid pretty close to what is was worth. I was happy to NOT get it for the overbid I entered as I may start to be seeing a light waaaay at the end of the tunnel on this thing and got a little trigger-happy.

Steven, those weren't part of the Dreier collection. It was just the first 400 lots.

It's funny - I bid on proportionally equal amount of pre-400 and post-400 lots, and won 22 lots, but it was all non-Dreier. Makes me think the first 400 lots went higher than expected just because it was Dreier-owned.

Legendary stated that the Drier collection had the most extensive collection of Wagner & Cobb type cards available.
This auction had 23 cards in total of Cobb and Wagner. Does anyone know how many more Cobbs & Wagners will be aavailable in the next few auctions? Tony |

Tony - I don't know the exact number, but the pages of text in the auction catalog that preceded the listings said there is enough so that there will be sections of Cobb and Wagner in every auction for the next 2 years.
