I don't know him but I'll ask him since I just bought the card.
j/k I was wondering though, how does a card with such offset back get a PSA 10? I then read that PSA allows 75/25 on the reverse. So yeah, I guess it meets that. Don't know the guy but the cert does match. GEM-MT 10: Gem Mint A PSA Gem Mint 10 card is a virtually perfect card. Attributes include four perfectly sharp corners, sharp focus and full original gloss. A PSA Gem Mint 10 card must be free of staining of any kind, but an allowance may be made for a slight printing imperfection, if it doesn't impair the overall appeal of the card. The image must be centered on the card within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 to 60/40 percent on the front, and 75/25 percent on the reverse. Saw the card. I have a few concerns. Card sold in Mastro in 2000 for 9100 so why less now. You would think the seller would look at comps and see 20k is a good place to price it.

Also, looks like that card sold for 9277 in 2000.
T206 Howie Camnitz (Arms Folded) PSA-10 $9,277 Then 10k in 2005> http://net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=77078 Either the seller is trying to dump it quick, or it doesn't look like the best investment. |

That is a beautiful common if not trimmed. A fairly tough common too. $200 to $300 price range. Now the label, that is worth $10K

I just spoke to the owner of the card. He bought it on eBay years ago. It is in his safe deposit box. The seller does not have this card. He only has a scan.

My first thought when I saw this is the seller probably doesn't own the card, but I didn't feel like posting it. It's so dangerous to buy expensive things from people you don't know.

i know the real owner as well, very nice guy...this card is still on his registry, and was recently reslabbed with PSA's current flip.
i used to own a PSA 10 T206...they are obviously extremely rare. there are only about 13 of them, and one top collector owns the majority of them. |

For what it's worth - the sellers completed listings show a -
1950 BOWMAN TED WILLIAMS # 98 BGS BVG 9 MINT - $2851.00 - on FEB 6th - no feedback on that sell yet. |

I absolutely do not see any chance of this card getting a 10. Even if you allow for a 75/25 centering, that's 90/10 top to bottom. I think Dan has it right, raw $200-$300, put it in plastic and people get stupid.
I would really love to know how many people think this card is a 10 let alone an 8 or 9. Linsanity for plastic, Lee

if this were in a SGC 98 flip would this be an issue?
the prevailing sentiment on this board is a resounding : "PSA overgraded it" "SGC undergraded it" just look at the recent SGC 30 CJ thread.... |

Well somebody thought it was a good deal as it has sold for the asking price.

despite comments saying it is not a ten, it is and should sell for about 20k based on other psa 10 sales which rarely happen. My concern was whether the seller really has the card not the price.

What Dan said. He's right. PSA is printing money; not a widely accepted currency, but there are a few folks who'll value that red and white "10" label at around $9000, evidently.

I bought it last night before I saw this thread. After reading the thread, I called EBAY and Paypal and they put an immediate hold on the transaction so the apparent thief will not get a nickel. Thank you and everyone for the thread -- next time I will see if there is a thread before buying. I did question whether it was really a 10 but the cert number was good and so I gambled as to whether it really justified a 10, but would not have gambled as to a fraud.

It absolutely amazes me that in an arms length transaction on ebay -- with both ebay and paypal in place to prevent fraud -- that an honest bidder has to be overly cautious when buying a card. Such a disgrace.

Just the simple fact a 206 is graded that high is ridiculous regardless of TPGC. I simply don't believe for a second any cards this age have some how made it at least 70+ yrs before slabbing in Gem Mint condition without alteration. JMO

These conditions amaze me, I guess that's why they fetch 20k+.

Good news; stopped seller from getting money. Amazingly, he claims he can consummate transaction:
*********************** Dear lionsabcd, Hello, I was going to ship first thing morning. Please close the case # 375060436 . The money is frozen on my PayPal account. If you don't close the case, I will refund you and relist the item again on eBay. Thanks - cliller893 Thanks to the good guys on the board this apparent fraud was thwarted. |

They should make the seller scan the card with today newspaper to prove he owns the card before allowing to relist.

No,
The real owner of the card should contact the FBI and let them know that he owns the card and then they can set up a sting operation to get the guy on eBay. David |

From my experiences, The FBI doesn't go after every situation. This is probably more of a local law enforcement issue. Since no one has been defrauded I doubt it would go too far even there.....though, as collectors, we would like to see the scum would-be fraudster in jail. Now if there was a transfer of money and someone was out 20k-30k, then their local law enforcement would probably take notice and help AND, if sent through the mail, they could call on Postal Inspectors for potential help. None of this is set in stone but just my view from knowing a little bit about the processes.

If it's interstate, then it's Federal. Since it would be considered fraud there's a number of agencies with jurisdiction. Generally though there's actually need to be some type of loss in order to act, and postal would be perfect for this type of fraud since the parcel never needs to actually be mailed for them to charge. There only needs to be the intention to use the mail in a fraudulent manner. Either way no AUSA would take this case, but it doesn't stop them going through the state on applicable charges.
