According to their preview it looks like there's Shoeless Joe's Black Betsy that comes into the shop tonight. I'm curious to see what they say. I hope it's autographed and Drew comes in with his gigantic magnifying glass.

The preview says that corey and chumlee look at the deal with the bat guy. It's either not the real deal or they will call in the memorabilia shop guy to come take a look at it i suppose. If it was real i would think rick would step in and look at it.

What are these bats worth. I didn't think they were alot, but one sold in heritage for almost 2k. But seen others sell for around $300.

Well the expert valued the bat at 800 (did have some condition issues) And they bought it for 350. Didnt look that bad other than someone carved thier initials in the butt end. Looked real to me. Very decent IMO.

Black betsy had a factory tape on them. Probably not cracked. Worth 800 or so.
Anybody have one they want to sell?

Not sure if the bat was cracked or not as these bats were sold already taped in that specific location from the factory. I think the evaluation was pretty good. It might go a little higher as it had much of the decal. The decals didn't survive on these bats. I've seen one that had almost all of the decal several years back in a Mastro auction and it was the best I've seen. These bats were offered through most of the 20's as they continued into the ball and diamond Spalding logo. I've got a 1928 catalog somewhere that shows it offered.

The evaluation on Pawn Stars was right on the money. I have owned 3 of these over the years, and all sold right in that range. The Pawn Stars example had a far beter decal than most. The carved initials would bug me personally, but it's still a $700 - $800 Bat.
Paying $350 for it was a pretty typical price for a dealer to offer (who intends to re-sell it). This is one that they actually got right... |
