I thought this was interesting...but likely not legitimate. I picked up this B18 and envelope on ebay (for less than $15). Never heard of Stag Tobacco before...but the blanket is nice. Any thoughts?

Hi Mac, that is very interesting. There are several 1912-13 Stag Tobacco ads on ebay, including this one that has flag silks/blankets.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120-plus-STA...#ht_3081wt_932 Cool envelope. I hope it is legit. Rick

The baseball players have always been associated with Egyptienne Straights Cigarettes. Perhaps this Stag brand had other types of felts or silks in them? Neat item though.

It's possible that the original owner, maybe damaged the envelope that the B18 came in, and decided to put in one from another tobacco product. Basically, the two may not be connected at all, other than that's how the owner chose to store it..

I seem to remember a majority of the B18's I ever owned had some sort of label remnant on it that I always assumed was part of the "tape" that folded the blanket together. I never even considered they were put in an envelope and taped shut like the one shown. Is it possible they were only packaged this way for one brand of cigarettes?
Edited to add that the tape remnant I usually saw was very similar (and in varied lengths) to the tape on the envelope found on the OldJudge.com site someone posted. Last edited by whitehse; 01-07-2012 at 04:31 PM. Reason: adding additioanl information |
