Rhett - I just finished reading your fantastic Old Cardboard article, and I learned a lot from it - lotsa kudos to you!
Re the cards with the "Henry A. Johnson ..." on the back, you mention a recent discovery of a Guy Morton card with a "light bluish-green printed back" and an Oakland address. FYI, I have had this WaJo card, which I believe has this same back and which also appears to have come out of a scrapbook, for roughly 10 -15 years. Inasmuch as this WaJo pose is found in the E121/80 set but is not found in the E121/120 set, could it be that this HAJ back pre-dates the HAJ back with the rubber-stamped purple ink? Is it known if HAJ had facilities in both Alameda and Oakland at the same time, or if he had only one location, which one preceded the other? I would love to see some more E121 and W575-1 type cards with scarce advertising backs - please show them (especially WaJos! ![]() Val |

I received the magazine but haven't read the article yet. I have always classified any E121 type front, with a different back and no ACC # as "W575-1" since that is what I believe Burdick intended. I guess it's debatable but here are a few...

Thanks for the positive response from the board, I am pleasantly surprised by the feedback in this thread. There is a ton more to write about these sets, but due to space contraints I tried to fit as much as I could into the 8-pages I was alotted. Lyman is a great guy to work with and if anyone has had the thought of writing an article I'd strongly urge them to do so... it was a rewarding endeavor. I'd like to send a "Thank You" shout out to Leon & others for providing a few of the backs pictured in the article.
Val, I'm excited that you also have one of the Oakland address Henry Johnson as that is only the second example I have ever heard of (undoubtedly more exist). When people know what to look for it becomes much easier to add to the collective knowledge of the community! -Rhett Here are some photos I have handy...

Rhett, sounds like you did a fine job. I hope to get to read that one day. My own contrariness contributed to me not subscribing to OC. One day I'll borrow someone's copy and read it. Thanks for advancing the hobby!!

Rhett,
I have been eagerly awaiting your article ever since word leaked on the Board a couple of years ago that you were working on it. I let my subscription to OC lapse about a year ago due to benign neglect (it is a great magazine) but ordered a copy of the latest issue just to read your piece. Congratulations and thanks. Scot |

I just invested the 30 minutes or so to read the article in it's entirety. A great article for sure. As a tried and true back collector, but not one focusing on any one particular series as this mostly did, I really appreciate the in depth knowledge that was shared. Hopefully we can find more info and discoveries as the future unfolds. Thanks again Rhett!!
