Well, can't let the baseball guys have all the fun.
PSA graded this a "7" with a hand-cut designation. Too bad this is not a strip card. It's half a card with the other half having another athlete. It's like grading part of a 4 in 1 exhibit or cutting a Doubleplay in half and grading it. http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-1922-Comic-...item43a7bc723e |

1/2 card? So does that mean it should really be a 3.5?

I have heard the argument that these cards were "meant" to be separated, so that's why PSA grades them in half (kind of like the Berk Ross '51 are graded in "half" or "whole panel" form) but I am not really sure what to make of that argument. If you look at the back of the card, there are two cards, #'d 5 and 6, so I guess I can see the validity.
Either way, it is a tough card. Last edited by wake.up.the.echoes; 06-14-2011 at 11:33 AM. |

I don't have a problem with it; just a strip card style issue. Lots of others that get cut up and graded, most notably the 1960 Hemmets Journal issue from Sweden that has the Cassius Clay 'rookie' on a 4 card page.

Yeah, I can see if there's a perforation between the two cards. But it's tiny as it is. I just don't see it as being a strip card type.

Does anyone know if these cards had to be cut out of the magazine that they were distributed with (in this case, Comic Life)?

They are cardstock, not thin magazine paper stock.......so I'd be surprised if they were cut out. Maybe inserted in a rice or wax paper sleeve. |

Now that's an interesting theory...Kind of like the Rogers Peet cards? There are a whole bunch of cards like the Comic Life cards issued in Great Britain during the '20s. I wonder if any of the envelopes/rice paper sleeves survived? Probably not, but it'll be fun to try and hunt one down.
