T206 psa 8 trimmed or not?

I recently purchased a t206 psa 8(oc) from a very reputable dealer. When i received the card, i immediately noticed that it had alot of space between the card and the holder edge guards. I measured the card and it is off about 1/16th of an inch top to bottom. I don't see any waves indicating trimming, but the measurement top to bottom is clearly off. Is it possible that a t206 could be that far off and not be trimmed? The back is piedmont 350 subjects, and the card is housed in an old psa holder with the hologram on the back. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, it's quite possible. There was a good deal of size variance on T206s.

I've had a couple rejected by SGC as miscut or undersize but with no mention of suspected trimming. Both have what I'd consider to be a factory cut.

As Steve said, there is definitely size variation in T206s. Just line up 50 raw T206s in gd condition (obviously not trimmed to sharpen corners) and you will see the variation. There was a good article in SGC magazine a year or two ago about detecting trimming on T206s. You might want to try to track that down and inspect your card after reading it.

I had the same question a few months ago.
I got a Young bare hand Sgc 40 that looked and measured undersized. At the time, it was only my 4th T206 card so I didnt have much else to compare it to.
My question basically boiled down to 2 things.
1) How much of a variance is size is there in T206's?
I found many of the answers about that one through some research and from members on here.
Conclusion-As e93 said, take 50 cards (if you have that many), compare them, you will see diferences.
2) Would Sgc slab a numerical grade on a trimmed card?
Conclusion-NO

I dont think you have anything to worry about. I am no expert but that is what I have learned.
To be on safe side, you might want to post a scan of card so the knowledgeable members on the forum can inspect.

Thanks for the opinions, and i agree, t206s can vary in size. I have been collecting them for over 15 years. 1/16th of an inch is a pretty big size difference, however.

Back in the good 'ole days if you took a large stack of original T206s I'd guess that close to 10% of them would be either longer or shorter than standard.

Legitimate variations on the sides of cards are much, much more rare than top to bottom. If you can see the natural 'roll' of the machine cut, you've got nothing to worry about.

I used to measure my raw T206's by millimeters, and found the standard size was roughly 66 1/2 to 67 mm. If it measured 66 or less, I was always skeptical. That of course didn't mean it was bad. But it's tough to find a natural one less than 66.

I have owned T206's over the years that exhibited significant size variations...usually vertically...that didn't appear trimmed to me. Although A PSA 8...to me...has a high likelihood of having been trimmed.

Which also implies that it is possibly likely that a full-sized T206 could have been oversized and trimmed down to "regular" size.

Yes, definitely. I used to own a full sized Cobb Green that was undoubtedly trimmed. Looked NM too - what a pity.

Thanks again for all the feedback, actually i was hoping to get more. I have compared this card to several other psa graded t206s i own that have a piedmont 350 back. Incredibly enough, the others are almost identical in size (probably 12-15 in very high grades). Very little difference in size except for this card in question.

If you post a scan people could give a more informed view. Otherwise it's just speculation. Could it be unaltered? Sure, it's possible, although the greater the variance from the "standard" size the less likely that is, especially as an 8 which even in the best of circumstances should raise eyebrows.

Peter- thanks, i was trying to protect the integrity of the seller and that's why i did not want to post a scan. He is a very solid and respected dealer, and i have bought many cards from him.

If you really are concerned, do what Todd did in the carterscards thread and send it to sgc for a second opinion. It may not be possible to give a definitive opinion in the holder, but it is another information point.

High resolution scans (1200dpi or more) of the edges would be useful, and since they only show details but not the flip or the rest of the card would still keep it anonymous.
