I just got a recent ebay find. A copy of John Montgomery Ward's Baseball How to Become a Player. Its the 1901 edition. It has a chapter not found in the SABR reprint that discusses the baseball captain. In this chapter Ward takes shots at Anson and Commy by saying that there aggressiveness is often misdirected and causes ungentlemanly conduct. he then holds George Wright as the best model for the manager.
A couple of questions 1. Is the captain chapter only in the 1901 edition 2. Thoughts on Value- back cover is gone and front attached with tape- contents are in pretty good shape- though the book is bound by a staple and I am not sure if that's original |

Great find!
Don't know how I missed it, and I've never seen this edition. Max
