Default Show some Contentnea t209-2...c46 also

In the past, I haven't collected minor league issues (or tobacco issues), but recently the Contentnea t209-2 (photo series) has taken a hold on me. At this time I only have one example and haven't seen all that many of them. Please show any (especially the portrait versions) along with an c46's. I'd also like to hear some interesting stories that go along with these cards!

Thanks
Travis

The T209 black-and-whites are a bit mindful of Billikens in their rustic way, don't you think, Travis? Here are some of the small handful I have.

One of my little collecting projects is to gather any T209-2s and T210s for players who are depicted in the Contentnea Color series. I'm not too far along with it but here are a couple of players. The change in teams in each case suggest the order and timing of manufacture/distribution. (I don't think I just invented the light bulb).

John Cooper is listed at baseball-reference.com as a third baseman for Wilson of the Eastern Carolina League in 1909 and for Wilmington in 1910. I borrowed the T210 scan from vcp.com.

Marty Walsh was listed as an outfielder with Greensboro in 1909 and a pitcher in 1910 with Norfolk.

Default David,

David,

Now that you mention it, they do. After seeing your post they also bring to mind one of the mid-1940s Venezuelan issues also...

GREAT cards! Thanks for posting!

Travis

I collect only Virginia League players in the T209-2 set. Am always looking to buy or trade for ones I don't have (subtle hint!). Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of the T209-2 subjects that shows what teams they are with?

Hi Val,

Lew Lipsets Encyclopedia has a checklist showing player and team for the T209-2 set.

Default Tim - Thanks ...

for pointing this out to me. I have Lipset's 3-volume set. I guess that I just need to frequent it more often!

Default a few interesting ones

Here are a few interesting ones. We have had some really great discussions around the Thompson card in the past. I don't own the 2 player card anymore....but I always liked the Sharp card with the manager sitting on the fence in the background.
