I've just returned from watching Roy Halladay pitch the first no-hitter in the post season since Don Larsen's gem of 56 years ago. Doc was brilliant in mixing up his pitches, using all of the plate, and pitching the most exciting game I've witnessed. He dominated.
It was also the first no-hitter I've seen in person. What are some of your memorable no-hitters? Cheers, Mike Last edited by Michael Peich; 10-06-2010 at 07:14 PM. |

Make sure you save the stub Mike!

I saw Darryl Kile's no-hitter in person at the Astrodome in the early '90s against the Mets.
I recall seeing several on TV as far back as 1969 where Bob Moose of the Pirates no-hit the Mets and more recently Randy Johnson's perfect game against the Braves and Francisco Cordovas and Rincon's combined extra inning no hitter against the Astros. |

I randomly went to see the Phils play the Giants at the Vet on April 27, 2003 and saw Kevin Millwood pitch one.

I have seen a couple in person. The first was Bo Belinsky's no hitter against Baltimore in 1962 when I was 18. The last one was a combined no-hitter by Langston and Witt in 1990. Belinsky made more headlines for his dating life (Ann Margaret and Mamie Van Doren) than his pitching. "1962" - I think I am getting old! Mike Ellis

I saw Don Larsen's perfect game in Oct 8th 1956.
![]() Only 97 pitches....and, Pee Wee Reese was the only Dodger to work the count to 3 Balls. Mickey Mantle's unbelievable running catch in deep left-center field in front of the Monuments off Gil Hodges' bat saved the day. Mantle hit a HR to score what was the only Run needed to win the game. Also, Sal Maglie pitched a heck of a game for the Dodgers. TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 10-07-2010 at 08:56 AM. |

As a Mets die hard fan I unfotunately have never seen one that I cared about. Too many 1 hitters for me the one that stands out is Bobby Jones in the playoffs in 2000. In 1969 I was fortunate to Tom Seaver pitch his on TV. It just shows that Halliday will go down as one of the all time greats. CN

I saw Carlos Zambrano carry one into the 7th. Then, in true Zambrano/Liriano/Hothead fashion, he gave up a hit and promptly allowed 5 runs. Classic Big Z!

I saw Terry Mulholland's 1990 no-hitter in person. Unfortunately, I removed my ticket stub from its usual place among all my other ticket stubs to "put it in a good place," and it's now in the "where are they now category". D'ohh!
On TV, watching live, I've seen several: - Halladay's last night - Halladay's perfect game this year - Kevin Millwood's in 2003 - the Friday night ESPN doubleheader no-hitter in 1990 (Dave Stewart first, then Fernando Valenzuela in the nightcap) - Bob Forsch against the Phillies in 1978 |

I saw Nolan Ryan's no-hitter at Tiger Stadium . He had 17 strikeouts (I think). One of the greatest performances ever.

Tony, glad you enjoyed it as much as I did! When Doc Ellis was with Texas I saw him be restrained by team-mates one game as he tried to jump in the stands and beat up a fan!

During our 100 year tenure as a baseball fan, we have been fortunate to witness two no hitters.
Oddly both involved the NY and Boston American League teams In June 1908 we were at the old NY Higlanders Park to witness Cy Young's third and final n- hitter. And more than 70 years, on a blistering hot Thursday July 4th afternoon, we watched former Yankee relief great no hit the Boston Red Sox. Fortunately we still have the ticket for each of the games. Al Leiter in 1996. The game was one sided from the beginning, the Marlins were killing the Rockies. I don't anyone(at least the fans in the stadium) was even paying attention to the fact he had the no hitter until about the 8th inning!

I was at Dwight Gooden's no-hitter in 1996. What I remember is thinking that he wasn't particularly dominant that day as he had more BBs than Ks and was helped by some great D (particularly a sweet catch by Gerald williams in CF). I also thought that if he wasn't such a dumbass junkie he may well have already pitched a couple of no-hitters at that point in his career. I was rooting for him though and he pitched like an ace for a month or two but by the end of the season he sucked so bad he wasn't even on the post-season roster.
I didn't save the ticket stub which is too bad because I could have picked my teeth with it. |
