Does anyone know why Burbank Sportscards (burbanksportscards on ebay) doesn't post pictures with there ebay listings? I asked for a picture, but they said "one was not available". How do you sell a card with no picture?

Yes, it seems as a picture is a must, in order to sell our gems...Unless you know the seller real well and they offer a return privilege....

I once called them up and asked if they could send me the scan of a card I was interested in. The person who answered the phone said, "No, we have too many cards to do that." Well, I guess they have too many customers as well. That's where I draw the line. If you want to sell it, I need to see it ...

If you write really creative, lengthy and elegant descriptions of what you're selling, I suppose the absence of scans can be ignored.

Rob at Burbank is one of the better graders I know. I do understand everyone's frustration but the way Burbank is set up; the scan of a specific card is a very difficult process for them to do. Perhaps the next time I chat with Rob, I'll see if there is some way for certain cards to always be scanned before being posted for sale

I called once to see if they had something in stock that I was looking for and was told they did. Drove half an hour out there to find out they didn't, and had never carried it. Flat out lied. The guy told me that they have similar stuff so it should be fine and to make do.

That's where a scanner and a high school student @ minimum wage would come in handy. Increased sales would more than make up for the minimum investment.

Been to there store a couple times but not in a while. The thing that turned me off was. You go on their store computers to generate a list of cards you want, basicallly they say after they pull them you have to buy them. There is no inspection of the cards, no asking if they have another. You buy what the pull or they get upset. Used to not be that way you could actually search the inventory yourself, but they say their inventory is too large to go back and forth and mess around. The owners dad is the moody one, the guy with the accent

What is it about this great hobby, which is so interesting and so much fun, that makes a large # of dealers and store owners so surly and disinterested in customer service?
OMG, you deal with sports cards and memorabilia all day, do realize how lucky you are that you don't have to work in a factory all day or work in all types of weather? You SIT in an air conditioned store or convention hall, hang out with your buddies and eat all day! I come up to a table or into a shop and practically have to jump through hoops just to get your attention so you can judge how much I'll spend by my age, what I'm wearing or who I'm with? Sorry for the rant but I worked in my dad's shop for 15 years or so and if someone wanted to look at every card we had, we showed them to the customer and let THEM pick the one they wanted and we had millions of cards too. This Burbank place should have exactly 0 customers and been shut down as soon as it opened with those kind of policies. I've seen their listings on ebay and am surprised they sell anything at those prices, especially a bunch of worthless new crap.

It looks like they list a pic with the high end cards, just not with the 99 cent commons. Which I'm fine with, it takes time to list a pic with every 1991 Topps Baseball Joe Nobody. If I'm working on that set I know what the card looks like, just as long as he grades right and NM is Near Mint and not Near Mangled. I have no issue... Now I'm not saying that goes for every set and every common, I want to see every T206 common or not before I buy it, but for the new everyday run of the mill stuff, I don't have an issue...

When I was doing the Topps Heritage sets in 2001/2002, Burbank was always the largest seller on Beckett.com. They had literally a million+ items listed individually there. I'm sure they have a bank of computer people just entering this stuff into their system. I'm sure it's served them well (see 218K feedback) but it takes the personal touch out of things. They were also basically AT Beckett prices. Nothing less. So that was also a little thing that got me. I would use them as a very last resort purely based on price if I needed a single card or two. Guess everyone has their niche.... |

While the picture thing is frustrating, if you are looking for commons to finish sets they have the inventory. I've never tried to buy a high-end card from them, but I understand why they don't do scans. They sometimes have hundreds of each common. To scan all those wouldn't be worth the time. The times that I've gotten poor condition cards in the mail from them I've emailed and they quickly sent me replacements.

Definitely an issue of overwhelming time. As some have mentioned, Burbank is (I believe), the biggest volume sports card dealer in the world. While I'm sure it sounds easy enough to hire a kid to scan everything, I don't think people realize the logistics of scanning, organizing, hosting, and posting literally MILLIONS of card images. The bulk of their buyers are trying to finish sets, and trust their grading sight unseen. you pay full retail, but that is because there is no one else who has even a fraction of their inventory in complete year, set, and number order to pick cards in seconds and fill wantlists. You pay for the service.
That all being said, I agree that they might want to consider hiring someone to scan and post images of cards above a certain dollar value, like $25, $50, $100, etc. Someone needing that last 1988 Topps #48 card for their set really couldn't (and shouldn't) care less about a detailed scan, but I think they might see increased sales on the higher end cards if they could eventually put scans up. All this to say, Burbank is a very trustworthy and reputable company and I'm sure if you have a problem with the grade of a card you buy from them, they would probably work with you. Mark Anderson |

I have dealt with them a few times in the past to buy some raw 2001 Pujols cards -- One purchase I remember specifically was for this E-X card. I emailed and explained that I needed a scan because a lot of those cards has chipped borders. They were happy to oblige with scans of both the front and back.
