Hey all.
As I start picking up more cards for my T207 set, what are your thoughts on crossing this particular set over from PSA slabs to SGC, just for continuity and appearance sake? I think the aesthetics of this set in particular looks good in the SGC holder comparatively, but are there any major downfalls to doing it? As some may have seen, this is my first foray back into vintage collecting in about 10 years so I didn’t know if anything may have changed in this corner of the hobby. What do you guys think? |

I have done the same with my T205 and T207 Cubs sets and they do look much better. The only caveat is I had a few cards that were in PSA slabs that received lower grade from SGC. However from the standpoint of continuity of the sets, they far outweigh the few cards that got lower grades.

Nothing's guaranteed when crossing over. Would suck to have the grade dropped from a "7" (not a bad grade for a T207) to a "6" or a "5". There goes a few bucks down the toilet, but that only matters if you're keeping score.
What happens if SGC decides to change something with their holder or label, then, if you're really OCD-ish, you'll want to have the entire run of cards re-holdered. I've got a mishmash of raw and graded cards. Within the graded cards are different TPGs. Within the same TPGs (for example PSA and SGC) there are different holders/labels. To me, it doesn't matter, however that's just my personality trait which may be something that would drive you nuts. Do what you want but there could be economic implications to your actions. Good luck with your collecting!

Hey Fred! All good points. I’m basically trying to stay at SGC 60 and under for my set so hopefully I can just add the tougher ones already in an acceptable SGC grade instead of crossing those particular cards over. Luckily I’ve gotten this idea of a single TPG set early on enough where I’m not going to be spending a ton to cross over just yet. |

All cards except Mayo cut plugs and 71 Topps look better aesthetically in a black apron, I try to cross anything for my PC to SGC no matter the grade. If you think you're going to sell soon and it's a fairly high grade keep it in the PSA holder for the Registry guys.
Still can't figure out why no other TPG has offered black aprons... |

I would not cross them if value means anything to you. If not, have at it.
