I was going through some odds and ends this evening and came across this card, an R319 Goudey, that was for sale. The simplicity of it is quite inspiring.....and inspired me to keep it.....So for any of you Goudey collectors on the board, do you have some others you want to show, for simplicities sake?

thanks Barry...the other thing about that Sewell card is the pose. I love it....don't know why, but I do. Such are our little art pieces...

Ernie has a bat.... and that's about all that's going on with this one. No Goudey strip, no horizon or field lines...

Art pieces they are, indeed, ole friend---and that is one of the key reasons we are drawn to the vintage cards methinks.

Diamond green background, game face, great haircut. Simply one of the greatest baseball cards extant.

I love the set as well. No bells and whistles. The set just doesn't need them.

Ott looks like he's about to have a gunfight come high noon.
Frank, Love the Jack Smalling glassine attached to a 3X5 with his patented pencilled notations! |

TY, JB, not many folks would recognize that... To me it's better than some PSA/DNA sticker, or whatever the sticker is.

Ok....
So far, that Ott looks the plainest. Not even a hat. Nothing. Stewart is a close second, that card is dressed up with that blue hat. But for that, nothing much going on there. And I think Orsatti get's third place for the moment, only a bat, no uniform markings, no ground or horizon, no Goudey strip, not very much of anything. These cards depicted ballplayers. How dear to my heart... |

The Tony Lazzeri card is pretty cool too. I like it and the Mel Ott the best.

OK, Mahaffey replaces Orsatti in 3rd place. That is one plain, simple card.
I like Gehrig batting, wish I'd acquired a VG one back when they were less expensive, I love the card. It is neither plain nor simple, though. It has the red stripe going on there, a batter's box, a bat, NY on the hat, pinstripes... quite a bit of stuff going on there, when compared to Ott, Stewart, and Mahaffey.
