It's that time of year...show off your best pickup of the year.
For me it was without a doubt the Max Towle Photo album. Max played for the Nebraska Indians, and was also the quarterback for the 1915 Nebraska Cornhuskers which made the album even better for me. He was also good friends with Les Mann so there were quite a few photos with a major leaguer as well. ![]() Some tough looking Nebraska Indian players wearing their caps at the train station ![]() A team shot that I'd not seen before ![]() Max also played for the Husker baseball team ![]() Some Husker football shots ![]() ![]() Hanging out with Les Mann (In his Springfield College lettermen's sweater) and "Doc" (haven't researched this fellow yet) in Kalispell, Montana ![]() More shots of the Nebraska Indians ![]() ![]() ![]() A shot of Buck Beltzer with his family - Beltzer was team owner and manager of the Nebraska Indians at that time ![]() 1918 Naval Aviation (Seattle) Football team...lots of former collegians on this team ![]() A Lincoln company team (I believe Laundry company) ![]() A couple semi-pro teams that Towle played with ![]() A three legged race at the ball park ![]()

I think Dan's album may be my favorite of other people's pick-ups.
I have four that are pretty much tied, but this is a good one: 1869 Kesauge cdv/cabinets

Thanks, Dan.
I love photo albums. If I had picked up the Matty McIntyre album before John Rogers parted it out, I probably would have just stopped collecting at that point ![]()

I know it's modern baseball, but a Miguel Montero game used bat from 2011. Photo matched it to being used to hit 3 homeruns. I had other good pickups but i sold them, but this bat is one of my favorites.

It's been a slow year compared to those in the past but I did make a couple of stellar Walter Johnson pickups. Here's the best of the two.

My most recent pickup is my best pickup this year. (Please refrain from lipsticking this one Scott) It is a Horner photo of Ed Reulbach and
was used on several of his cards like Colgan's Chips, T204 Ramly and Fan Craze to name a few. The reverse has the Horner-Jordan stamp. Last edited by jthorst75; 12-24-2012 at 06:24 PM. |

Val,
Just type No spaces. The link to your image is: http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Ite...52015a_lg.jpeg So you would type: [IMG] h ttp://ww w.legendaryauctions.com/ ItemImages/000152/ 152015a_lg.jpeg [/IMG] without spaces to get: ![]() The image will stay up in Net54 as long as it remains in its original location. It will also appear the same size here as it did in its original location. |

2012 was a good collecting year for me. I added A LOT of pinbacks to my collections with many thanks to my friends here particularly Adam (Tigerden) who sold me his Detroit Tigers collection, Al, and Andy.
But if I have to choose the most important single addition it would be this 1906 White Sox Championship mirror. These have terrific eye appeal and offer some historical significance. ![]() This large pitcher sculpture believed to be Walter Johnson would be a close second. ![]()

Boy, congrats to all of you. Those are some terrific pickups! This is one of my favorite threads of the year.
I literally picked up these two items last week, yet they certainly are my favorites of 2012. They came directly from the 1974 California Angels ballboy Paul Hirsch. Perfect provenance makes these two items my favorites. They originated from arguably one of Nolan's best years-1974. In 1974 Nolan struck out 19 batters 3 times, threw a 1-hitter, his third career no-hitter and fanned 367 batters for the season. Quite a year! 1) The game ball is from Nolan's 15th K in his AL record breaking 19th K game (9 innings) on August 12, 1974 at Anaheim. He passed Bob Feller who previously had struck out 18 in 1938. 2) Nolan's 1974 Angels locker tag from the Angel's clubhouse. Accompanying photo is of Nolan w/ ballboy Paul Hirsch in the Angels clubhouse in 1974. If you look carefully you can see other locker tags above the lockers in the background which helps provide a photo match... Last edited by Scott Garner; 12-25-2012 at 07:22 AM. |

Brennan's best and last year with Philadelphia was 1913 and that appears to match his uniform style too. It was probably played in Humboldt as they played there in 1912 for sure. The Senators started using this style uniform in 1912. There's another photo like this only bigger out there and it states Allen County ball players. Brennan was from La Harpe and Johnson from Humboldt. Both of which are in Allen County. I've never seen a picture or any information of a game being played in La Harpe. That's why I figure Humboldt.

Great stuff guys!
As you can see, this photo dates from May 18th, 1912. The frame and glass are original. The image measures: 32" x 12". This picture hung in a Cincinnati bar for many years. It goes nicely with my 9" x 12" Redland Field Dedication Program with the same date. Happy Holidays! |

Baseball-wise, I collect Yankees images from the 1920s and 1930s. I had a very productive year (next year will be less so).
These are probably my two favourite pick-ups of this year and for very different reasons. One is the Yankees' squad pictured at Boston in April 1924 (presumably one of their first images as World Champions) and the other is of Joe DiMaggio in 1938. ![]() ![]() |

The DiMaggio photo wasn't expensive but case of right time, right place Love the image and have always had an interest in DiMaggio as he's probably the closest thing to a baseball icon I've had. I've done well with both Gehrig and DiMaggio images this year. |

Great pick ups everyone!
I had a number of very nice pick ups this year, but my favorite piece of non autographed memorabilia is this photo from Gehrig's wake. It is not the most expensive, or most valuable item, I was able to get this year, but is absolutely the most moving. As was discussed in a thread earlier this year, I think it is such a poignant picture, that truly expresses the special connection Gehrig had with kids and fans. ![]() I hope everyone has a Great Christmas, New Year, Chanukah, and all the holidays celebrated this time of year I wish you all a very healthy and prosperous 2013. Best, Mark
