I was going through my 210s and noticed that some have extra large borders.
I then noticed that the image portion on the large border cards are smaller that the regular border cards. In my series 2 210 set It seems that there are 3 different sizes of the image portion of the card.. ![]() T210fat.jpg t210compset415199af[1].jpg t210compset415199bf[1].jpg

I wonder if they were printed at different locations at different times? Maybe the set-up man that day, just didn't follow the specs properly.

The size of the print has nothing to do with the set up man or press operator. All of that was done in pre-press by the artists.

Here's one of the two large border ones I still have, Revelle, Richmond, series 2. (Beside him is an orange border one...) I also have Merritt, Richmond, series 2.
I looked at the series 6 cards. I'm confident that none of the series 6 cards have large borders. Can we confine these to series 2? Anyone have any from a series other than 2? And, for those cards we've shown with a large border, anyone have the same card with a normal size border? ![]() |

Some Series 8 Fat Borders... (Apologize for the sloppy scans, and additional T213 scan as well... I am in the process of a Scanner upgrade and will be rescanning all my material...)
![]() Also, it is a interesting question regarding which series have Large Borders and which do not... I don't know that we have ever discussed that one... Series 2 and Series 8 can represent the Large Borders so far...

Right you are, Jeremy.
I'm a big fan of Hub Perdue, and somewhere I have a T210 of his, my recollection is that it has the big red borders, too. So I'll go for series 2 and series 8 as possible big border cards. Any others? |

Jeremy, you beat me to it, Series 8 also has some fat border cards.
To answer the other query above, no, I have never seen the same player in ANY series with BOTH fat and thin borders on different cards. Last edited by tbob; 07-01-2009 at 06:13 PM. |

I think that cards with the fat borders are only found with fat borders... ie no cards have both types.
I also think that the big border cards can be found in series 2 and series 8, but not in others. I'm willing to rethink that if fat border cards from other series are posted. Here's my worn, but dear, Hub Perdue, Nashville, series 8. |

Frank --seeing your post caught my eye because today on another site I posted this question----The August 13, 1910 edition of Sporting Life contains the following statement " Pitcher Schlitzer of Chattanooga, left the team in Birmingham last week and will be taken charge of by a famous local "negro arm doctor", who put pitcher Hub Perdue right". Does anyone know who this famous "arm doctor" was? The reference to Hub Perdue was timely.

Why Bill, would it be this publication to which you refer?
More specifically, about in the middle of page 17 ???? I'd not ever heard that before. I have a few Sporting Life's, and I have one roll of them on microfilm. When you mentioned the date I scampered to a box of stuff I had out last night, and there, awaiting me, was the August 13, 1910 issue, with Howie Camnitz on the cover. (Now I have an image to compare those T206s to.) Hub was a character, I've tried to get an example of most all of his stuff. Of course I doubt anyone will ever do a "Show us your Hub" post. Thanks for that query, Bill. I shall look into that. FW |

I present to you The Gallatin Squash !
- I concur with Bob, Frank, etc... I just went through my T210 stash and I had a few Series 2 Fat Borders, and had several Series 8 Fat Borders, but did not see a single card from my type examples in the other series with a Fat Border. (I will say, that I have a Series 4 O'Connor that has 2 sides with Fat borders, but the other 2 are slim, kinda miscut... I certainly would not count this, but it defintely has 2 sides fat...) - Unless contested, I believe as well that only Series 2 and 8 have Fat Borders. Wonder Why ? Would love to hear some creative theory... - I went through my Nashville T210's, and noticed something kind of unusual... The only 4 Fat border cards I have out of the group are Bay, Bernard, Perdue, and Case. The remaining 13 are all thin borders. What struck me as a little strange is that Bay, Bernard, and Perdue were all from the T206 group and the photo's used were from that same pose. Obviously the other 13 players don't have another card, but they are thin cut. The anomoly is the Case card, so it kinda "squashes" my T206/T210 Nashville Fat border theory, but certainly is odd to me that the T206 group are all fat, while the remaining majority are thin...

Hey Jeremy... I'd not noticed the possible T206 link to fat borders.
Up there above, Hart, Brietenstein, Smith, Revelle... they have fat borders and each is also in T206.... So which T210 subjects are also in T206... I guess we can quit looking for a Joe Jackson T206 card. His T210 card has thin borders, so therefore he must not be in T206. Last edited by FrankWakefield; 07-01-2009 at 09:29 PM. |

Frank you are so very right. But one reason that I believe the borders are wider is by comparing the cards in the T-210 set with the T-211 Red Sun set as the cards from that set were wide.Do the comparison with the same player in the T-210 to the T-211's and you should see the same. This is part of the T-210 article I am working on.However if anyone wants a copy of the article I am not going to post it on the board I am going to send it via email. So anyone interested in the article you can PM me your email addy and I will send once I get it done.Still doing lots of research and I have some nice Old Mill Ads as well.
Hope that cleared that up a bit as I had a majority of the T-211's and I compared them with the T-210's now I know the series 2 are not in the 211's but my other thought is the Old Mill Cabinet H-801-7 cards as there are cards from that set that are found in Series 2. Speaking of the Old Mill cabinet cards,Does anyone know why they were given the "H" Designation?I have my reason on that topic too but I am off too work ,something to think about and I will give my answer once I get home tonight. The answer is very simple here is a hint around 85% had tack holes in the corners. And why do you think the old mill cabinet cards border color looks diff. that too is part of the answer.THINK ON!!!!!! ;-) Last edited by Old Mill Man; 07-02-2009 at 05:49 AM. Hey there, Ralph,
Here's my lone T211 Red Sun, Bayless of Atlanta, and he has wide borders. The other T211 I had was in a bit better shape, and had thinner, what I'd deem normal, margins. So this one supports what you're saying, right Ralph?? |

I don't see the Red Sun either, and I meant to tell you the other night, that that your Hub scan did not come through either... (I would love to see the Hubbard BTW)
- Not sure how to resolve your dilemma... Ask Leon, possibly, maybe Brian... JJ

Yes Frank that is what I was saying the most popular wide border one is Hart-Montgomery but yes if you do a side by side comparison you will see what I mean as the 211's are wide bordered as most of the 210 series 8 are but note it is most of just a portrait and the old mill cabinet cards are from series 2 which can be found with wide borders. The Old mill cabinets were given the "H" designation because they were used as advertising in the store. That is why you see most with tack holes and the sun bleached the colors out of the borders. As I have been told by some of the older collectors the cabinet cards were not redeemed with a coupon thus tyhey were intended to be used for displaying purposes of the cigarettes and the card influenced the buyer like getting a toy in a box of cereal.Just my two cents.I don't see the 211 Frank.

Well I see them, and I believe you guys can't. At the time I had 23 images in my album here. I deleted 3 to get it down to 20, thinking there's a limit that was restricting me.
Below are links from Photobucket, please let me know if these appear, or not. Thanks. FW ![]() ![]() |

Not only is your T210 image/border size an interesting observation, but it's also bringing out some interesting visual comparisons. Thank you for the interesting thread. Joe P. |

There can be 75 pictures in each person's album(s) and up to 2 albums....So that is a total of 150 pics.....we can discuss this number if need be as it is easily changeable...

I think this may be spread out-at present I have 3 albums-1 with 40 T206 fronts-1 with 40 T206 backs and 1 with 12 for sale. Might be 150 total pictures-I am not sure but the feature is letting me show 3 albums...
