Interesting "story" except that Gehrig was with the Yankees in Kansas City on June 12, 1939 not in Cooperstown. |

Just out of curiosity, why were the Yanks in KC on 06/12/39? They played a doubleheader in St. Louis on 6/11 and then were off until 6/14 at the Stadium vs. the Indians.

Gehrig's last game was June 2nd in Detroit. Did he travel with the Yankees for the rest of the trip or did he go back to NYC?

According to Jonathan Eig's Book, the Yanks played an exhibition in Kansas City on June 12, 1939 against the Blues (their double A farm team). Lou was obviously quite ill but played three innings. The Blues lineup included Phil Rizzuto, Jerry Priddy and Vince DiMaggio.
