Has anyone seen a card like this Rizzuto, with "An Exhibit Card" scratched out at the factory? |

Isn't there a line of thought that Exhibit had a second line of cards stating "Not to be sold in Exhibit Machines" specifically just to push the main brand? Wonder if these are somehow of that ilk. |

There are 2 Rizzuto cards a large photo and a smaller photo of the same pose. The larger photo has the scratched out wording what it says exactly I can`t remember and why this was done I also don`t know.Notice the larger photo,Rizzuto`s rear foot is cropped out where it can be seen fully in the smaller photo.I think there is another player with the scrach mark but I can`t recall or I may be thinking of a dupe I have of the same Rizzuto card.I`ll check my Exhibits when I get a chance. |

Thanks Dan. By the way, it says "An Exhibit Card." Never knew there were two shots of Rizzuto. Like Jeff Heath in the Salutation set. |

I am working on revisions of the Exhibit listings for the Standard Catalog, so this is a very timely thread. Looks like we will have a large projection and small projection designation and perhaps even one with "An Exhibit Card" crossed out. I've found some other interesting cropping and caption variations as well that are as of now uncatalogued but that should be part of a master listing (IMO; we'll see how the powers that be feel). |

If I remember correctly the cards that say "AN EXHIBIT CARD" were prouduced only in 1949.This is one of the many ways collectors try to pinpoint which years the cards were printed in.Different letter size are another, made in u.s.a,exhibit card co,printing on the rght hand side vs the left are other clues to the printing year as well. The chart may help explain this better. |

I may have that article filed away somewhere. Odd that some years don't have 32 or 64 cards though. |

Thanks everyone for checking on the Camilli I think it doesn`t exist.Bob if you can help here is my want list to complete the set.I would be interested in low to mid grade condition for the Rizzo,Hartnett,Kreevich and New son to keep it affordable.I`m not to focused on condition as long as it`s fairly presentable is fine with me most of my set is raw anyway. |

In the 1920s ESCO was known to scratch out or paper over printed information. Five of the PC back baseball cards have labels slapped over the name and team data after trades (Hornsby, Frisch, Peckinpaugh, Cobb and Rouch [sic]). The 1926 Harry Greb (boxing) simply slapped a label over the picture when he lost his title. Card backs from the 1920s boxing sets (they had bio and stat backs) similarly have information obviously filled in at times. Doesn't surprise me that someone just said "WTF" and scratched out some offending info on the plates of these cards, probably on an interim basis. |

I have a 1949 Yankees team with An Exhibit Card. The team is labeled the 1949 champions, meaning if it was a 1949 issue, it was after the World Series was played. |

Thanks to all who've sent me info on variations. At present, looks like I will propose at least three additions to the Salutations set and several additions to the 1947-66 set based on either cropping variations or legend variations involving "An Exhibit Card." My personal view, FWIW, is that these are not distinct sets given that many of the Salutations cards were issued into the post 1947 period. If I was the card god I'd decree that it all be treated as one continuous issue. I will also be suggesting some revisions to the pricing structures to take into account the many short prints that are not currently recognized as such. |

They aren't very good at cataloging known variations. It is listed in the book as the 1955 Exhibits set. Does yours have the "mutoscope" wording on the back? |
