Brian C.Missing from most type collections, and most every other collection, are the extremely elusive 1936 R301 Overland Candy Co. wrappers. They come in different colors and were made 5 x 5 1/4. Most are found with folds, creases, or tears because of their very fragile paper ("Scarce set frequently found in lower grades" is how they are charitably described on Old Cardboard). Finding just one is a challenge. Having a shot at three at once is unheard of. A Joe Vosmik with tears and a piece of tape on the back sold in Lew Lipset's auction for $783 before buyers' premium. The three I am offering are more affordable because they are in a lower grade (including small edge tears and light wrinkles), which means a chance to acquire one without breaking the bank. All three have great eye appeal.
Cecil Travis - World War II and battle injuries cost him a chance at the Hall of Fame (Washington Nationals) - 5 x 5 1/4, missing corner - $425
Jose Luis "Chile" Gomez - a Mexican all-star, he appears on only two period issues, one of which is the R301 (Philadelphia Phillies) - about 4 1/2 x 5 1/4 - $385
William Ben "Chappy" Chapman - played for the powerful 1930's Yankee teams (New York Yankees) - about 4 1/4 x 5 1/4- $325
