Default At the National, I'll be searching for ...

Taking into account that for some collectors the National is more about renewing friendships, free fajitas and parking at no charge than it is about cards and memorabilia, is there one piece of cardboard or collectible that you really hope to cross off of your want list in Cleveland?

For quite some time I've been looking to add an E101 to my Lajoie collection. Because it's not that tough of a card, I'm hopeful of finding one at the National. On the memorabilia side, acquiring a Cleveland version of a 1920 World Series press pin would make this show truly memorable (I'm not quite as optimistic about this one).

Anyone else?

I will be attending my first Network 54 dinner, and my third national. I am very excited. I am hoping to pick up my first T206 Cobb, and a nice T206 Tris Speaker. I usually by a few dozen commons and this time I am going after quality instead of quantity. I also will be rooting my Tigers on at the Indians' vs. Tigers' game on Friday night. It will be a great trip!

Rob

To answer your question, I will actually be bringing that one piece of cardboard with me. When I was growing up my favorite football player was Earl Campbell. With that, my father only ever bought me one football card. It was Earl Campbell's RC and he gave it to me for my birthday. I am planning on have it signed by Mr.Campbell at the National. I think then it will be my favorite card in my collection.

Nice thread topic

Default Not really sure what I will find

I plan on looking mostly. I would like to find some good deals on the T206 cards that I don't have, however, I never have had much luck finding deals on prewar cards at shows. I'm sure that I will fill a few holes in my post war collection. I also want to get an autograph from Ernie Banks.

I'm really looking forward to the Net54 dinner and meeting some of the folks that I have done business with in the past few years.

Best wishes,

Joe

Since I am a very low-end collector & can't really afford to buy much stuff, the National for me is definately more about the social aspects plus I make the trip into a mini-vacation as I usually go downtown for the nightlife. The Net54 dinner is easily the most rewarding aspect of the National experience. I truly enjoy meeting other collectors & dealers from this forum. However, I am always searching the bargain bins for really, really poor condition cards of Jewish players.

I will be in the Cleveland downtown area on Wednesday, July 29th. If anyone wants to meet me for dinner, contact me offline. Thanks.

Alan

Nopt that I will have a lot of time to "shop", but as I'm out talking to dealers, I'll be looking for my lower-end Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth items (cards, original photos, anything pre-1950, affordable, and probably very low grade)!

Default If I tell you

I'll have to kill you...

Given what I collect, suffice it to say that I hope to find more than free fajitas but don't expect to find much more than free fajitas...Knocking one card off my major want list would be just dandy.

Default I will be looking for

M101-6's, William Paterson's, W503's, W575-2's, and an Old Judge of Jim McCormick.

-I expect to spend a lot of money, but I doubt I will find anything that I listed above, so it will be a typical National trip for me...
