At least in the old days, Great Lakes had a college football team. I had a wirephoto showing them versus Notre Dame. |

I live and work not far from Great Lakes. Its right on Lake Michigan and thats the only reason I can come up with as to why they put a Naval base in Illinois! I think it might be one of only a few naval training bases left in the country.....at least thats my understanding. My Dad graduated from there in 1950 or 51. |
