Default The Air Up There--Lowest PSA pops for 1952 Topps

Can you guess the 1952 Topps card with the lowest PSA pop including qualifiers ?

I have been casually collecting 52 Topps for about 5 years. Going for a binder set, I started low grade, but am constantly upgrading. I had never really thought about centering until I started collecting 52 Topps.

There are so many cards available to pick and choose from, raw or graded.

I was looking at my checklist today and I noticed Ed Erautt was not checked. From the PSA pops his card is one of the least graded. 492 with + and Q numbers.

Walt Masterson is the least graded from 1-310 at 474. High Number #398 Hal Rice is the least graded at 446.

Pictured are my checklist and examples from eBay of the Walt and Hal cards that I don't have, yet.

I agree. I think most high numbers are sent to be graded no matter how thrashed, but commons need to be decent enough to cover the grading fees.

Here are some SGC pop numbers. Pictured is a nice Ennis upgrade that I just received. Only 8 Ennis cards graded higher on the SGC pop report.

Low numbers Eddie Miksis 45
High numbers Meyer and Rozek 64

Mentions
Walt Masterson 62
Ed Erautt.........53
Del Ennis.........64
Hal Rice...........69

1952 Topps is a set that has terrible centering. Some cards are almost impossible to find centered and therefore not worth grading. Never understood why there were so many miscut cards until I read that the backs may have been printed separate from the fronts and then sent back to Topps for the final cut and packaging. Not sure if this is true for all series or just some cards.

Good luck on your quest!

Thanks. I'm following along on your variations thread, lot's of interesting info on there, but for now, I'm working on centered low series cards, plus anything I can get under $100 on the high numbers. Here's one on the way.

Not to be "that guy", but Pat Mullin (#275) only has 460 graded by PSA

Thanks for the correction and feedback. Mullin it is. I had a note on my checklist that I need to upgrade Mullin. It must be found in low grade often. I'm enjoying the ride on this set. Added another upgrade...
