Habana and Almendares were two professional baseball clubs in Havana, and were referred to as the "Eternal Rivals". A "Habanista" is a supporter/fan of the Habana ball club and an "Almendarista" is a supporter of Almendares. The place was baseball crazy and the rivalry bitter, so it spawned much memorabilia like this. |

Santos Amaro played from the mid 1930's to the mid 1950's, and my guess is that the flyer is from the mid to late 1940's. It could be Sparky Anderson depicted. I'm sure Ryan would know. |

The Anderson drawing to me appears to be a caricature of a black person. |

The Anderson is Ferrell Anderson. He played catcher for the Habana team for two seasons: 1948-49 and 1949-50. He was an All-Star in Cuba and somewhat of a fan favorite. Not sure why he didn't play there more. He had an extensive minor league career in the U.S. and played in the majors with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946 and for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1953. |
