Walter Johnson - which card?

What are some of the favorite Walter Johnson cards that can be had
for $500 or less in F-VG condition? Would like to get one good example
this year of the "Big Train" for an All-Time Team display I'm working on.

Looking for the most aesthetically pleasing image in any set.

Artwork or photo are both OK. Prefer action/baseball pose vs portrait.
A card of him throwing would be ideal. Any scans appreciated.

It is not only the nicest WaJo.... it is the nicest card ever created of all cards created in the history of card creation.


get the 1915... it will be less expensive than the 1914.

I'd have to agree wtih Joe D. on this one though you can't go wrong with the T206 portrait. Joe, that's a nice CJ but I saw one in a Beckett holder that looked almost as nice...

The T206 pitching pose may be a good option if you prefer a baseball pose over a portrait.

$500 for those cards? I would think they would be a bit more though I guess if they were in fr condition it could be close.

Some of the caramel issues would be good, such as E120, E121, E122....and the Exhibits are an excellent choice, as Jeff showed. It's hard to go wrong buying a Big Train card, for aesthetics and everything else. Good luck

Ugh...to each his own, but I've never understood the love for M116's. The portraits are fine, but the colors are horrendous - they look like a kid took a nice set of black and white shots and went to town on them with some crayons. I also don't understand how people can't seem to read the original post when Frank clearly asked for an action/pitching pose over a portrait.

I think Jeff nailed it and second his vote of the 1921 Exhibit:



The Cracker Jack is also a fantastic choice and I couldn't argue with that selection.

Thanks for the ideas and the looks at the cards. Right now the Exhibit
cards and another similar shot on a 1922 V61 Neilsons Chocolate are
looking like good choices. The Cracker Jack is great but that's a real
tough and expensive card. I have a Fair condition ungraded Mecca
card which is not bad either. The art is decent, it has nice colors and the
pose is great with the Big Trains slingshot follow-thru.

The Cracker Jack is it, but not in the price range. IMO it is one of the hardest CJ to get and I rarely see it below the G-VG level which would cost more then the $500 cap. I would go exhibit. They are nice cards and most are under valued IMO.

Good one JK. Like that card a lot. I think it's between two poses:
either the wind-up/rearing back or the follow thru. Like the
fact that it's a blank back too so won't be missing anything
in the frame. I'll hit the BST tonight and put up a WTB post.
