Wow, it's really dropped in PA since I saw you in Reading. When I left the state in late July, regular 87 octane was fetching $4.09/gallon. At the time of the Reading show, the price had dropped 50 cents. Now you're telling me that it's all the way down to $2.89?! That's great news!

Up here in Canada, gas was selling for more than $6/gallon at one time. It's down to about $4.32 now. Our gas is sold in litres, however (about 1/4 of a U.S. gallon), and it was at $1.08/liter last night.

still $3.18 this morning but I suspect it'll push $3.00 by mid next week. Spoke with a guy at the local BP on a trip last week and he said it'd be pushing $2.60 in a month. Heard an analyst yesterday on the radio said $40/Barrel oil in the near future. Find that hard to believe but $65-$70 seems reasonable. My 16 year old who just started driving is breathing a small sigh of relief. His $$ are stretching just a little more!

In N.Texas, in small towns, I am seeing about $2.89 - $2.99......I think this is a great thing since many that really feel the squeeze at the pump aren't fortunate (or unfortunate as of late) to own stocks. The working class are probably better with the gas going down than the stocks going up....and I understand the trickle down too. But when they see their $300 paycheck and divvy up the bills....they aren't looking at stock prices they are looking at their wallets.

As for cards....I am glad I have more cards than stock right now.....I am an optimist. Things will get better..

You wouldn't believe it, but gas in Sag Harbor was still $4.19 a gallon last time I filled up. They really take advantage out there.

My brother lives in Adams County, Pennsylvania and agrees with the "bitter people who resort to their guns and religion" statement. "What can I say, where I live its true", my brother said. The cheapest I've seen gas in Central Maryland is $3.33 per gallon.

Thanks--I always feel a lot better after reading what you have to say on politics.

Maybe the "bitter people who resort to their guns and religion" will rise up--the new silent majority.

I always thought of Pennsylvania as the inner citie of Philly and Pitt overwhelmingly democratic and the rest of the state Republican.Hopefully that will persist and the rest of the state will overwhelm the two inner cities.

The steps to which the Democratic party and its wholly owned affiliates(Acorn, Move On, Kos) etc will go to win this election are astounding.

Gas coming down takes a lot of pressure off everyone. The way are country has been built, gas is basically a tax. Very hard to avoid. If either McCain or Obama would step up and address this issue head on they would get my vote.

If and it's a big if Obama manages to win, our kids will thank us. Number one it will be a decisive blow to the politics and policies of our current admin. Number two we will get an actual fiscal conservative party back as a choice in four years, not simply the faux-conservative party which is currently running.

Gas is now under $3.00 here in Nebraska....this is good news for me as I own a store that relies on people having expendable income. I heard The Donald (Trump) on TV the other day saying he thinks oil should be at $40 a barrel NOW. That would be nice to get gas back to under $2.00 gallon...would help me and a lot of businesses out.

Right now in Lancaster County the lowest I have seen is $3.19. Since gas is something most of us use (with the possible exception of our friends in NYC), lower gas prices have the same effect as an economic stimulus package, except it doesn't come in one big chunk.

As a person who studies demographics as a hobby (I know, what a nerd!)I have a pretty good grasp of who is going to win the election if it were held today. Obama could lose key battlegrounds like Pennsylvania and Florida, and still win. In 2004, I called 49 out of 50 states correctly (dang New Mexico) so I would like to think I know this stuff pretty well.

I don't know for sure Jim, but in my district my vote for Obama is probably hopeless...on the other hand Nebraska is one of only two states that is not a winner take all in the electoral vote category and the second district (basically Omaha) is very competitive and Obama may take one electoral vote out of here. We only have 5 to give so not that big of a deal anyway, but in a close race Omaha could decide the presidency!

This is absurd. Republicans have the platform which is right. Low taxes, fiscal responsibility and less government.

The problem is they have strayed so far from their core beliefs, they are very hard for people in the middle to support.

You nailed it Sagard...the facts are the facts.

Reagan - expanded the federal government, raised taxes and almost spent us into oblivion.

edited to add the upside to Reagan - he lowered taxes then had to raise them out of necessity, and the spending helped in some part (Not as much as Wingers like to give him credit) to bring down the Soviet Union.

Bush the elder - raised taxes and it got him booted from office in 92 because he broke his promise not to.

Clinton - balanced the budget, shrunk the government, signed off on welfare reform, and lowered taxes.

Bush the idiot - lowered taxes, spent us into oblivion and bloated the federal government. He will leave this country in far worse shape than he found it..not all of it his fault, but he will take the brunt of the blame in the history books.

Now the GOP choice is a guy promising to put the federal government in the mortgage business???

Yes, Geothermal imaging from space has shown that the Alaskan region has more cupic tons of oil....

edited to add: the Saudis know they have a limited supply and that is why they are trying to get as much money for it now...similarly the arab nations are trying to position themselves with life after oil by building up their tourist economy....

Those early afternoon "exit polls" in 2004 were proven to be highly skewed....the sampling of Dems was approx. twice that of Repubs.
And, it was deliberately done to discourage voters from voting for George Bush. It's a game the media plays every 4 years.
When it was all said and done, Bush won with 62,000,000+ votes......the highest of any Presidential candidate.

In 2000 Tom Brokaw erroneously called Florida for Gore way before the people in the Fla. Panhandle were finished voting.

Two years ago the Dems in Congress told us to vote for them and we would get...."CHANGE" ! ! ! ! !

So, many voted for them....and, we got "CHANGE"....change in the form of coins, not $$$$. A year ago the DOW was at its highest at
14,000 and gas was less than $2.00.

Well, we got "CHANGE" alright with the DEMS controlling Congress.....no wonder Congress has the lowest rating ever recorded....8%.

Even George Bush has a rating of 25-30%

Here in the SF Bay area, the cheapest is about $3.50/gal
with most still at $3.65 or so. Obama is so far ahead
here that the candidates don't even bother to campaign
here anymore - they just stop by every once in a while to
raise money.

Interesting that gas is even going down anywhere right now with the shortages in the south due to Hurricane Ike. I really don't know the supply networks so I can never figure out why gas goes up and down.
