Is there anyone else that feels they spend way more than they should on our little gems? I find myself asking myself |

It's a wonderful thing and I will be glad to show it later this evening....(knocking on wood it does get here today and am told it will)......It's certainly the biggest (physically) sports item I have bought....and is somewhat out of my norm....which isn't always good ..... |

Sometimes I do....this month especially. I spent next to nothing in June and July just because nothing really came up that fits within my focus, but lately here it seems like everyday something I want pops up on ebay. I also have a local auction to look forward to in a couple of weeks as the auctioneer told my brother it has some Lincoln minor league stuff in it. In my collecting world it seems to be feast or famine. |

Yes, Leon, it's possible to have either the "Oh, no" moment or the hesitation before pushing the Send button, no matter what your "budget" looks like. (Especially when somebody puts in a snipe that's just under your high bid.) There's a collector right now who's liquidating a good part of his collection, meaning that there are a whole bunch of pieces coming on the market at the same time that I might not see again for years. Do I promise to be good for several months afterward to justify "spending forward" into my budget? Sell off some of what I already have? Try to hide the spending? Haven't figured that one out yet. |

when my house is being forclosed on and I havent eaten in a week, then maybe Im spending too much. However, buying old cards is about as addictive as crack. |

I had a theory a couple of months ago that since the economy is in the toilet, less people would be bidding, thus the prices, cross the board would be lower, and now is a good time to buy. |

I find myself in buying modes, only ending up having to sell the cards a few months (or weeks later), often at a loss, to fund my next purchase. |

Sounds like you're coming down with the flu, Leon. Might want to call it a day. Don't want to expose your co-workers. |

As a teacher these past two months have been brutal for me...just way too much time to spend money. Coupled with that I could not attend the National this year and I did a lot of "poor little me" bidding and buying. |

If it is money you need for something else important, it is too much. If it is money you budget for your amusement and relaxation, it is not too much. We (well most of us) work very hard at our jobs, support our families, pay our taxes and bills, etc. Whatever is left over SHOULD be for fun, after all you only live once. And as I always tell my wife while justifying a big purchase, it isn't like I spent the money on booze, broads or blow. |

I've been spending more than I've planned the past couple of months, but as was said, many of the items are at lower prices than I've seen in a while. |

I think that this time of year (summer) is great for buying. Prices seem to have dropped for prewar cards during the summer. I feel so positive about this that I am dumping items so that I can re-invest in T-206s and Goudeys. Its a good time to spend more! |

Just don't tell your wife. At least it will buy you time until she finds out - gives you time to come up with a good story, like, "but honey - the cards are better than the stock market right now." |

Went to the national and spent $400.00 on cards. Spent more on travel and hotel than cards. Had a great time however. Could have bought more from here if I didn't go. |

I've been spending too much for a long time. Went on a binge earlier this year. I almost have all the debt paid off, so I can start all over again soon. Also, there is a certain individual who collects similar items that I do, & he always out bids me recently on eBay. That is certainly helping control my budget. |

I too went to the National and spent a fortune on travel, hotel, gas, tolls, etc,... and spent next to nothing on cards/memorabilia. But, had an absolutely fantastic time !!! |
