I recently listed this 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card on Ebay. The card was submitted to PSA and was returned as altered with the reason being "altered stock". I listed the card on Ebay with the images below stating that the card was authentic, but altered. The email from Ebay is as follows:

Why wouldn't PSA holder it as "authentic" if it's a real, but altered? If you have them do this you'll be able to list it. |

I sent a total of 35 cards to PSA on four different submission forms. I wrote that I would like any ungradeable card to be slabbed on only one of the submission forms and they did slab all 6 ungradeable cards on that form only. I called PSA and was told I would have to pay the submission fee again and it was up to the grader whether the card would put in a case. I still can't believe that Ebay can cancel an auction for this reason. |

We all want Ebay to cut down on the fraudulent garbage; their hit list is a good start. Sorry you got caught in it but I believe it is for the collective good. Plus, you will probably do better anyhow if the card is slabbed, even with an "A". |

Just curious as to what the alteration was; are they saying it was re-backed or had rebuilt corners or surface areas? And what does 'favored by counterfeiters' mean? All Counterfeiters love a 52 Mantle. |

I was told the corners were rebuilt. I am not sure how many of them were though. I guess there is an epidemic of counterfeit Mantle cards on Ebay lately. Ebay is totally clueless. I have been using Ebay for 10 years and have 100% positive feedback. It shows Ebay does not respect their Powersellers. They didn't even contact me before cancelling the auction. |

...If they get to the point where they only allow auctions of slabbed cards by the big 2 or 3, then then that would be bad for collectors and wonderful for card companies... |

The problem is the scammer who came before you. He presented a Mantle with a PSA trimmed Card Saver 1. Unfortunately he swapped the trimmed Mantle with a bogus Mantle. |

"you need to resubmit and request it slabbed as "A" if altered. But you may get a 3 this time anyway." |

I would un-rebuild the corners and take a low grade...which is a step up from authentic. It's been done before with favorable results. |

I belive that the policy already states it must be PSA, SGC, or GAI only. |

Not related to this card and this thread but - it would be nice if ebay allowed a member to explain why a given listing is a bogus card, i.e., the font on T206 cards, so that anyone could see the difference. However, ebay allows only the item number to be reported. Makes no sense. |

Where did this card originate from? I looked at 2 cards, at the same pawn shop, with the same fade mark on the cap. I assumed that the cards were knock offs because of the mark. I think I still have the scans on file, if you want to see them. |

This card belongs to a customer of mine in Japan. He has owned this card for many years. |

I don't think this card has had it's corners rebuilt, but I could be wrong. If you look at the top white border right in the middle I think there is a rebuilt pinhole there. You can see the same "circle" on the back scan on the far left half-way up the side. This is the alteration that PSA saw. |
