The Sporting Life set seems to be one of the toughest for these guys to get right. |

As with PSA, they should certainly be crucified, or at least run out of town for making such a mistake. |

They switched the labels in the encapsulation. They will fix it for free and probably give you a couple of vouchers for the trouble. That's what happened with mine. |

Actually, PSA will offer a free fix and vouchers (probably not 100% of the time, don't know the stats on the vouchers) too, but of course fan boys wouldn't want that news getting out. |

SGC has made a couple of errors in labeling my Exhibit cards from the 1920's. One was a 1923 Exhibit that they called a 1922 and the other one was a stamped back 1922 Exhibit that they graded a 30 rather than the 80 that it came back as the second time. |

Actually the cards aren't mine they are in an auction now but I spotted them. Didn't notice the consecutive number certs but still I have seen plenty of PSA and SGC mistakes on this set. Everything from labelling Mordecai Brown as "Buster" Brown to very common errors, such as "blue back" when the card has a black back, or "pastel" when the card is easily a blue front or vice-versa. I think one thing which makes so many mislabelling occur is that there is a subset of cards which have blue AND black backs, with most of them having just blue backs. I have seen cards slabbed as "blue back" which never occur with black backs, and lots of "blue backs" when it is the front that is blue. Be careful when you buy these cards in slabs to make sure you are getting what you think you are getting, scans of both sides of the cards is always helpful... |

Bob - I concur that the blue/black backs and blue/pastel background possibilites are why these are often mislabeled. "Blue back" could easily be mistaken to mean "blue background." |

So all I learned by reading this thread was that all TPG's make mistakes. Such a shock - all humans are prone to errors. |

Jeff: Glad to help out. For everyone else reading the post, the issue is that some of the 1920s Exhibits can be found with a factory-applied origin stamp on the back, likely used to make it legal to ship/sell in Canada. You'd only find this on some 1921-23 cards. Starting in 1925 the company put the origin label right into the printed text on the card front. |

John - unfortunately I do not own the card above. I had actually intended to buy the card as an upgrade for my E95 set and then noticed the NY on the chest. |

These labelling mistakes are meaningless. Both companies will fix it for free. Lets talk about when there is money involved. I bought an ebay item PSA T205 Graham Cubs variation for a few hundred in a 4 label. No picture on the auction. card comes and behold, label states Cubs but the card is Rustlers. There is about $150 difference there. Seller tells me to pound pavement, I go to PSA and guess what? They fixed the label for free, Dan is out $150. Now that is customer service at its best! |

It was many years ago early in ebay days when about 40% of the auctions did not have pictures. Let me ask you something. PSA labeled it CUBS variation. Should I need to see it? They are the experts. A professionally graded card and I should ask for a scan to make sure the correct card has been entombed? |
