Was at a small, local card show going through a junk box (everthing $1.00), the dealer had some strip cards and this was in with them. Can anyone identify the player and the issue? |

I have never seen any card issue like this before, but if I were to guess this looks like Lee Meadows, a bespectacled MLB pitcher in the twenties. |

It looks like it could be 1/4 of a 1935 Goudey. |

I think that it is 1/4 of one of those cards that came in a childs playset, but I can't remember the exact designation (UNC something). |

The player is Lee Meadows which eliminates the 1935 Goudey as a possible set for this card. |

The dot pattern makes it look like a trimmed down 1920s strip card ... I just checked the Old Cardboard site and there are at least three sets from 1920 and 1921 where the artwork looks very similar. I also found a picture of Lee Meadows and it looks like a dead ringer for him ... Meadows' career peaked during those years ... |

Here are cards from three sets I found on the Old Cardboard site: a w520, a w521 & a w522 ... the photo at the bottom is Meadows ... |

The card that I am thinking of had four players on one card and was issued in a playset. I had a card with Babe Ruth on it a few years ago and the artwork was similar. I don't know if the set has ever really been checklisted, and the origin was unknown until one of the playsets was in an auction somewhere. There was some discussion on the board about it at the time. Sorry to be so vague. |
